Haley Barbour: I won't endorse during the primaries -- probably

“I’m not sure that I’ll even take sides in the primaries,” he said. “If Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels had run, I would have been for him. There’s nobody else I feel that strongly about.”…

Barbour’s neutrality also could be a potential disappointment to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is currently weighing whether to run. Some Republicans who were behind Barbour until he decided not to become a candidate have indicated they are prepared to support a Perry candidacy. Barbour’s comment Friday could prompt some of his allies, as well as other undecided GOP leaders and fundraisers, to continue to hold off until the race begins to clarify.

“I don’t think there is a true front-runner,” Barbour said. “Mitt has run before and he’s got more financial support at this stage. But I think the more telling thing at this stage is how few of the serious fundraisers and big givers have taken sides. There is a huge number who are waiting.”
