Monday's Final Word

These buffoons sat here and lied to you for four years and are now pretending to be the victims.

Fake Tapper even has the audacity to profit from it.

Next level grifting.

1. How did the President of the United States, at an advanced age and clearly in failing health have a slower moving cancer go completely undetected until stage 4?

2. If the most likely case is that this cancer was known for quite some time, the motives become grotesque, and the fallout severe. What is the purpose of covering up a cancer diagnosis? Surely to obtain office and retain it. Thus, who knew, where was he treated, and when was it diagnosed?

It goes without saying that this is a serious national security concern. Someone running for President at least once if not twice with cancer and keeping that hidden from the American people all while releasing doctors' statements that he was in perfect health, opens the door not only to charges of perjury on a massive scale, but of potential blackmail by malicious actors.

Ed: Good point. Perhaps Congress should look into this question.

===

Ed: Nonsense. This isn't even so much about Joe Biden as it is about the people who used him as a puppet to exercise authority in his name.

===

Ed: As always, Megyn is always on point. Axelrod is fooling himself if he thinks this will shut down debate over the cover-up.

Less than a year ago, Biden's physician claimed he was a "healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency." This already strained credulity for people who noticed his mental decline; it is still more suspicious now, in light of this stage four diagnosis, signs of which were likely present 10 months ago.

The Axelrod line is an attempt to ensure there's never a reckoning. You can be sensitive toward Biden's condition, which is surely very sad for his family, while also trying to uncover which operatives tried to perpetrate a fraud, lying to the American people about the man for whom they were going to be asked to vote. In fact, the two aren't really in tension at all. Which Democratic aides, staffers, and decision makers tried to pull the wool over people's eyes? It's important to suss out how culpable the Bidens were in all this, yes; but the former president doesn't have some long political career ahead of him, whereas some of the people who were complicit in all this might have many decades left.

Ed: Some of them should spend some of that time in Club Fed for their role in subverting the Constitution.

Ed: This was also in direct rebuttal to Axelrod's suggestion that we tamp down the cover-up debate.

The president and CEO of CBS News said Monday that she is stepping down, marking the second high-profile departure from the organization within the past month as it contends with a $20 billion lawsuit from President Donald Trump and a high-profile merger.

Wendy McMahon, who took over the stalwart news brand in 2023, said in a memo that her time atop the company has been "a privilege and joy," but that the past few months had been "challenging."

"It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward," McMahon wrote in a memo to CBS News staff. "It’s time for me to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership."

Ed: McMahon's leaving rather than admitting that 60 Minutes and CBS News participated in another cover-up as well -- the cover-up of Kamala Harris' utter incompetence as a candidate. It's every bit as reprehensible and corrosive as the media's years-long attempt to run interference for Biden as he descended into senility.

... and we should also all robustly question what the president’s mental acuity was when he was running the country. Entirely proper to do both.

Ed: This is exactly right. The idea that we should put aside a cover-up of this scale because another one apparently took place is utterly ridiculous.

Imagine if you, your grandfather, your husband, or your beloved boss announced he had advanced-stage cancer, and then public figures and commentators reacted with suspicion about the timing of the announcement.

If that sounds distressing and unfair to you, then consider learning a lesson from former President Joe Biden and his handlers:

If you deceive the public consistently for years about your health and viciously attack and slander those who raise questions, then nobody will trust you anymore, and many people will assume the worst. What’s more, the people who defended you in the past will feel manipulated and misused, and so very few people will want to defend you ever again.

Ed: It's like killing your parents and then asking the court for mercy on the basis of his orphan status.

Ed: Shamelessness, in service of ducking shame.

“Well, look, there’s still they’re still gaslighting this. I saw the comment by Biden’s spokesman — “The audio does nothing but confirm what is already public” — that’s not true. You listen to that audio, as bad as the transcript is, the audio is worse,” argued Rove. “You can hear the clock ticking in the background as the president breaks up a sentence, as he thinks about what his next thought might be, or what is that next word in the sentence. It is painful to listen to.”

“The people around the president knew he was not up to the job,” he continued. “They disrespected our country. They demolished their party, and they ought to be ashamed of their behavior in trying to encourage him to run for reelection and not stand up and say to him, ‘Mr. President, with all due respect, it’s time for you to leave.'”

Ed: Let's hope they demolished their party. So far it doesn't appear that Democrats recognize that risk. Will voters actually hold them accountable?

Most of the Democratic establishment sources who provided the material for Original Sin—and Tapper and Thompson have clearly spoken to a lot of very powerful Democrats—show little sign of grasping any of this. Instead they offer self-exculpatory variations of: This is crazy, I thought to myself as I left the fundraiser. And when they lament their party’s mistake, they are overwhelmingly focused on the fact that Biden’s decision to hide his cognitive decline cost them the White House; though he finally ceded to Kamala Harris, she could never recover from America’s anger at the deception.

But very few of the Democrats Tapper and Thompson interviewed seem to care whether Biden could do it for another term, and what it meant to be publicly supporting someone so ill-equipped for the role. For far too many, the biggest problem with the Weekend at Bernie’s ruse was simply that they hadn’t gotten away with it.
