The Lancet was once considered a gold-standard medical journal.
Now? It is a symbol of how the Establishment destroyed itself by becoming an adjunct to an ideological left-wing agenda.

It's sad, not because a once-great institution destroyed itself in the pursuit of power. That, unfortunately, is a story as old as time.
Rather, it's because The Lancet used to be a resource where medical professionals could go to get some of the best medical research available, and now it is not. And, as far as I can tell, nothing has replaced it. The self-destruction of our major institutions is a crisis that threatens the West.

The Lancet, along with Nature Medicine, was a prime participant in many of the COVID cover-ups. They have stood by as many of the worst medical scandals in modern history have unfolded, and have adopted the worst ideological tendencies that have turned academic institutions into jokes.
Scientific American led the charge for prestigious publications entering fraught political issues as ideological warriors, but The Lancet and other prestigious journals picked up their own swords and went to war against science and common sense.
You would think that after the COVID fiascos, these journals would seek to bolster their faltering credibility, but instead they have chosen to align themselves even more obviously with a political movement that most people rightly see as, well, crazy.
They can do this, they think, because by more tightly linking themselves to a smaller but more passionate ideological cohort, they can substitute passionate support for the wide, but diffuse, respect they once enjoyed.
It is the same bargain most Pravda media outlets have chosen: they believe the current information marketplace is dividing into camps, and the best way to survive is to align with a camp and keep it focused on hating the alternatives.

This has not worked out so well for the news outlets that chose to go down this road, and it may take a while for scientific journals to suffer the same fates as newspapers and cable TV outlets.

Ironically, in this case, it was The Lancet that helped popularize the autism/vaccine link hypothesis, which is the cherry on the top of this excrement pie. If they find RFK, Jr.'s vaccine skepticism beyond the pale, they should look in the mirror.

The Lancet is a perfect example, among many, of institutions that have surrendered to left-wing mobs and handed over their once-earned respectability to insane and destructive people.
Unfortunately, it will take, as it did with Pravda, a decade or three for the consequences to fully play out. And, as with Pravda, new institutions to replace the old will take even longer to be built.
In the meantime, we are condemned to swim in a sea of sewage masquerading as truth.
