It's the Nurses Who Are Scariest

Having been in the hospital too many times in my life, I can honestly say that nurses as a class are wonderful people doing a tough job, and that the quality of your medical care in a hospital setting is almost entirely determined by the quality of your nurses and their attentiveness.

Doctors may be responsible for supervising your care and ensuring that medical treatments are appropriate, but nurses actually run hospitals and most medical facilities. You will be lucky to see a doctor in a hospital, outside of procedures, for a time measured in minutes. Nurses are there for you 24/7 if you need them.

That is one of many reasons why the radicalization of nurses is so frightening. And while no doubt most nurses aren't out to get you if they disagree with you, enough of them are to create a worry about your actual safety if you are a member of a disapproved group, or even suspected of being one.

I wrote earlier today about some doctors and even hospitals refusing emergency care to law enforcement officials, which is bad enough (and in some cases against the law), but there is an activist subclass of nurses who are actively advising people about ways to harm or even kill ICE and Border Patrol agents, or warning Republicans that they will get substandard care because the nurses think they are bad people.

I am not going to go into the case of Alex Pretti, aside from noting that he was a nurse who, it appears, quit his job to become a full-time activist, because there is already a lot of commentary about it, and we really don't have all the facts. I personally doubt he intended a "mass casualty event," and suspect that what happened was a predictable but definitely regrettable shooting. We'll see.

But when nurses start musing about poisoning people, or making other threats, it is really scary.

This particular nurse has apparently been making videos about ways to #resist ICE enforcement for a while, and only recently got into trouble as her case was elevated to national attention by Libs of TikTok. Her employers seemed fine with her activities until it threatened their viability, which in itself is scary.

And her employers included Duke's health care system, one of the largest ones in North Carolina, and widely considered to be among the best. Yet one of their nurses was openly musing about poisoning people.

She is not alone, of course. The Nurses Association has been very active in the anti-ICE protests,

Just as not all teachers are radical activists, not all nurses are either. But radicalism has spread quickly in both professions, and the unions representing both are extremely radicalized and, in many cases, only view their role as representatives of the profession as peripheral to their social justice activism.

As of now, I wouldn't be afraid to put my life in the hands of almost any medical professional based on their political viewpoints, but if I were in law enforcement, I certainly would be worried.

The problem goes much deeper than the obvious: this is an egregious attack on social trust. When people cannot trust that they will get care, or even fear that the people they are to trust with their lives are not inclined to harm them, society breaks down.

Liberals don't seem to understand how damaging their increasing radicalism is. For all the talk about social norms and kindness, their actions, not words, speak very loudly. When they celebrate the murder of Charlie Kirk or Brian Thompson, we hear it. When Tim Walz speaks of "war," we hear it. When the entire Democratic political establishment sides with people assaulting federal officers who are doing their jobs, calling them "Gestapo," we hear it.

When they talk of murder, we hear it.

If we can't walk into a hospital confident that we will get care, what are we to think?

Gee, how kind you really are. You cry when narco-terrorists bringing poison to the US die, but call for the death of law enforcement here.

Editor's note: If we thought our job in pushing back against the Academia/media/Democrat censorship complex was over with the election, think again. This is going to be a long fight.
