In the UK, things have gone much further: not only are they arresting people for things they post online, and you can go to jail for "liking" a post the government disapproves of.

It's already happening, and because the prisons in the UK are overcrowded, the government is going to start emptying prisons of criminals in order to create room for speech criminals.

People are being sentenced to prison for months or even years for what they say and do online under the legal theory that being upset about immigrant crime is inciting riots.
Mind you, approving of turning Britain into a Sharia law country and treating women and children like dirt is not only protected speech, but absolutely encouraged in the name of "diversity" and "inclusion." Britain needs more stabbings, acid attacks, rapes, child grooming, and Hamas supporters, and if you oppose that you are a hateful bigot who needs to be imprisoned.

To give you an idea how absurd things have gotten, actual pedophiles are let go without prison sentences while people are now going to jail for relatively anodyne Facebook and Twitter posts. The UK government is threatening to extradite American citizens for their speech and politicians and media figures are pushing to jail Elon Musk for allowing speech on Twitter the government doesn't like.

Of course, there is no correlation between actual violent behavior and willingness to punish people. Migrants, legal or illegal, can get away with almost anything, while native citizens are thrown into jail for thinking and saying the wrong thing.

The depravity of this crackdown on speech is hard to exaggerate. It's not that I approve of the rioting--I don't--but the two-tier system of justice is impossible to ignore as is the tolerance of certain kinds of speech--from Islamists who support and celebrate terrorism--and the crackdown on others is impossible to either ignore or to approve.
During the Harehills riots the lady offered the police tea & ice lollies. She was then arrested for saying 16 years of immigration had ruined the area.

While it is true that we have a First Amendment here, what we don't have is Democrat politicians or many judges who believe that the Constitution is relevant anymore. Their commitment to a "living Constitution" and hatred for "originalism" mean that written protections and laws mean nothing if they decide to ignore them.
