Sunday Smiles!

Another week of insanity means another week of absurdity to mock.

God gave us a sense of humor for the same reason He gave us a sense of tragedy: to put life into perspective.

It’s hard to keep perspective at times, because as Ferris Bueller says “Life moves pretty fast. If you donโ€™t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

I am pretty awful when comes to living out the wisdom of Ferris. I get hyper-focused on things, and when my father and I argue and I get excited he kindly says “I respect your passion,” by which he means “calm down.”

God also gave us Sundays, for the same reason He gave us our senses of humor and tragedy: to provide perspective. That is one of the reasons that Sunday Smiles is my project. I look for the absurdities, the humor, and the cuteness in order to remind myself that the world God has provided is, in the end, good. Despite its frustrations, and even despite the battles with evil.

We fight against evil because there is a good worth defending. The path of evil, after all, is the easier and more pleasant one. We reject it not because it isn’t alluring, but because its allure destroys what is truly valuable.

Humor at its best undermines the bad and underlines the good. It provides a payoff for that which we choose to or must endure and lightens the load when it seems heaviest.

With that in mind, enjoy this week’s dose of funnies. We’ve got a busy week ahead.
