"The Daily Show" became cool thanks to Jon Stewart.
When the liberal comic first hosted the Comedy Central series, he leaned to the Left but wasn't a Kimmel-like propagandist. He earned modest respect from the Right, particularly when his media critiques expanded beyond Fox News to CNN and other Legacy Media platforms.
When he came back to the show after a multi-year break, all that changed.
The few times he tried to be reasonable, saying COVID-19 likely came from a lab and hinting that President Joe Biden wasn't all there, the Left raged against him.
So he did as told, sticking to the Left's farcical talking points and playing footsie with folks like Graham Platner. Remember him? Stewart compared Platner, who fled his Senate race after the crush of scandals became too much even for Democrats, to the hero in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington."
Stewart even lobbed softballs as Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a man who flirts with antisemitism at every turn. The Anti-Defamation League even created its own web site to track Jewish hatred in the Big Apple under his watch.
MamdaniMonitor.com. That's a real thing.
Oh, and Stewart is Jewish. That shouldn't stop any interviewer from pressing the Mayor on his actions, but it makes Stewart's cowardice all the more remarkable. And sad.
Now, Stewart is weighing in on the French riots. The "mostly peaceful" protests where new citizens burn historical buildings, bully entrepreneurs, ransack Jewish temples and wave Palestinian flags.
Because it's all about education and diversity. Wink-wink.
For Stewart, the chaos wasn't a moment to reflect on unfettered immigration, cultural rot or radical Islam. No, he lashed out at President Donald Trump. Why? The riots are about rising gas prices.
Really. That's what French President Emanuel Macron claimed in one of the most shockingly tone-deaf comments ever made. Stewart heard that embarrassing claptrap and went with it.
Can the funnyman fall any lower? Well, he just signed a contract extension, so the answer is, "Yup." For now, this is pretty low by itself.
In France, they've burned down an entire city because of a war they didn't start and aren't even any part of. And here, in the country that started the war, we're not even sure we're going to get to take back the House! I mean, we are so mad about this war, we might vote! But at least now—yeah. Get out there!
By "We" he means his fellow Democrats. Way to say the quiet part out loud.
That's not all. Stewart also blamed the riots on France's history of revolutionary violence. That's true, on paper. Did those riots have endless Palestinian flags fluttering in the smoke? Is Stewart ignoring the consequences of open borders on a culture?
He's gotten pretty good at ignoring lots of things. Like reality.
Stewart is bought and paid for by his liberal chums. He can't think for himself, nor call out genuine threats to the nation, any nation, if it's not tied to a Trump Bad theme.
And he'll be walking the beat — on Monday nights, at least — through the 2028 presidential election cycle.
