The Censored Comic We've All Forgotten About (But Shouldn't)

Jimmy Kimmel is back on the hot seat.

The far-Left host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" doesn't just skewer President Donald Trump on a nightly basis. He goes further, crying over his re-election and insisting that he'll "kill" us soon or later.

He even held up a shirt saying just that. And yet that moment came and went without incident. It's almost as if we've grown numb to Kimmel's toxic brand of so-called humor.

At least he had the guts to admit he's no longer in the comedy business. Stunning, brave and accurate.

This time might be different.

Mere days before the latest assassination attempt on President Trump, Kimmel uncorked this "howler" during a faux roast tied to the White House Correspondents' Dinner gala.

"Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow."

And, of course, Kimmel's audience ate it up (an element of this story that's been under-explored). It's the new Normal in Hollywood, an industry which spent Trump's first term wishing death upon him. Now, in Trump 2.0, the Left is making no secret of its wishes.

Remember how "Saturday Night Live" shared a similarly themed assassination joke against President Trump and the audience lapped it up?

Both President Trump (not shocking) and First Lady Melania Trump (shocking) are demanding ABC fire Kimmel. The Legacy Media won't do the same, and will howl at the moon should ABC oblige. How do we know? The press raged against ABC for suspending Kimmel late last year after he lied about Charlie Kirk's murder suspect.

Free speech matters, but what Kimmel cranks out on a regular basis should be deeply embarrassing to ABC, at the very least.

So far, there's not a hint of shame coming from the Disney-owned company. The Mouse House also broadcasts "The View," so the company is beyond feeling remorse.

Yet another comic performer once suggested a president's death in more cartoonish fashion. And boy, did he pay a price for that single infraction.

Rodeo comic Tuffy Gessling performed a bit at the 2013 Missouri State Fair wearing a President Barack Obama mask. The sketch found him scrambling to avoid getting trampled by a bull, while a voice asked if the crowd "wanted to see 'Obama run down by a bull.'"

Gessling was slammed as a racist and endured a lifetime ban from the rodeo circuit.

Few, if any, media outlets rushed to his defense. The bit's racial implications were unclear, at best, and the performer noted that rodeo clowns have tweaked other presidents over the years.

It didn't matter. He had to go. But what about Kimmel? It's a complicated question.

Free speech matters, first and foremost. Had Kimmel shared the crack on a podcast or stand-up stage it might be different. He's using the public's airwaves to dump kerosene on a very dangerous fire, particularly since this is the third time someone has tried to murder the president over the last two years.

And it might not be the last attempt, sadly.

Here's hoping those voices defending Kimmel's livelihood this week were doing the same for that rodeo clown back in 2013. Chances are, they weren't.
