Sunday morning talking heads

A slow news week means a slowish slate on the Sunday shows, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken the top guest. He’ll chat with “This Week” about the White House’s expectations for Israel as the left gets more vocal in its support for Hamas and what Biden discussed with South Korea’s president during his visit about containing Kim Jong Un. He’ll also be asked about U.S. “vaccine diplomacy,” particularly with China’s vaccines not performing well abroad. There’s an opportunity here for America to end the global pandemic and earn goodwill in regions where Beijing is hoping to expand its influence by supplying locals with highly effective mRNA vaccines. Is there a plan to do so?

This morning’s other hot topic is the increasingly bleak outlook for the January 6 commission in the Senate. Susan Collins will explain her misgivings about the commission to “This Week” while Roy Blunt shares his own with “Fox News Sunday.” Two House Republicans who voted for the commission (and for impeachment) will counter them, with Adam Kinzinger following Blunt on “Fox News Sunday” and freshman Rep. Peter Meijer sitting down with “State of the Union.”

Finally, various White House allies will be on to lambaste the Senate GOP for opposing the commission and warn that Democrats will soon go it alone on infrastructure if Republicans don’t cave to Biden’s demands. Cedric Richmond and Cory Booker will speak with “State of the Union” while Bernie Sanders guests on “Face the Nation.” The full line-up is at Politico.
