Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) delivered some campaign advice to Joe Biden – stop campaigning on Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021. Move on, Joe.

For some unexplained reason, the Biden campaign thought it was a good idea to take Biden to Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, about 15 miles from Valley Forge, where George Washington rallied the Continental Army to fight the British almost 250 years ago. I guess the purpose was to compare Washington to Biden. It’s ridiculous on many levels, but Team Biden is absolutely clueless, lost in their own little bubble.

George Washington could not lie. Joe Biden is a serial liar.

When Joe Biden delivers a speech, usually the White House has to smooth over or explain his remarks. Especially when he goes off the teleprompter, Biden’s staff just holds their breath because they are afraid what he will say. The Biden campaign has decided to bring back Dark Brandon, the screaming old man we saw during the 2022 midterms. The playbook is to paint Trump as a threat to democracy and generally a bad person. One way to do this is to concentrate on the riot on Capitol Hill on January 6. Biden uses the word ‘insurrection’ though Trump was not charged with insurrection. Nonetheless, Biden persists.

The problem with dwelling on January 6 is that Americans are over it. They have processed the events that took place on that day and moved on with their lives. Mitt Romney is giving some friendly advice to the man he hopes will beat Trump in November.

But Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and one of the most vocal GOP critics of Trump, recently panned Biden’s approach, telling the The New York Times that Biden’s democracy push is a “bust.”

“Jan. 6 will be four years old by the election. People have processed it, one way or another,” Romney told the newspaper via text message. “Biden needs fresh material, a new attack, rather than kicking a dead political horse.”

Romney, who voted to convict Trump for incitement of insurrection for his role on Jan. 6 and has warned against the former president’s potential return to the White House, has been critical of the Biden administration at times. But the senator was a key player in crafting the bipartisan infrastructure bill that has become one of Biden’s top domestic policy achievements and has expressed openness to backing the president’s reelection bid.

Romney is retiring this year so he doesn’t have anything to lose. Romney supports Biden at every opportunity so it isn’t too surprising that he feels the need to coach the Biden campaign. Maybe he thinks if Biden wins, he might get a job in the administration. Romney has come far in his relationship with Trump. He asked for and received Trump’s endorsement when he ran for president in 2012. When Trump won the 2016 election, Romney asked for a job in Trump’s cabinet. Then, when Trump rejected that request, Romney went anti-Trump. Anyway, Biden has nothing to run on and Americans are feeling a Carter-like malaise. The only choice Biden has is to trash Trump on a personal level.

“Today we are here to answer the most important of questions: Is democracy still America’s sacred cause?” Mr. Biden said. “This isn’t rhetorical, academic or hypothetical. Whether democracy is still America’s sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time. It is what the 2024 election is all about.”

It was Mr. Biden’s most aggressive attack yet against his expected 2024 opponent. Typically, Mr. Biden has refrained from using Mr. Trump’s name, only referring to him as his “predecessor” or “the former guy.” On Friday, he repeatedly called out Mr. Trump by name.

Mr. Biden let loose on the former president, calling him “sick” and “loser” and depicting his supporters as insurrectionists. Mr. Biden also said Mr. Trump’s handling of the Jan. 6 attack was among the “worst derelictions of duty” by a U.S. president.

Biden said that democracy was on the line in 2020, too. He said he would bring back “normal” and beat Trump to save democracy. Now, in 2024, we see who the real threat to democracy is – Biden and the Democrats. Biden’s DOJ and other Democrats are trying to throw Trump in jail to keep him out of the White House. Democrat activists cosplaying as state officials in Colorado and in Maine are trying their best to keep Trump’s name off the GOP primary ballot. That is third world stuff. Democrats think it is normal behavior.

Monday Biden traveled to Charleston, South Carolina with Rep. James Clyburn, the person responsible for turning Biden’s primary campaign around in 2020. Biden lost Iowa and New Hampshire so in order to keep Biden in the race, Clyburn convinced South Carolina Democrats to vote for Joe. They did and he was able to stay in the primary. Monday Clyburn took Biden to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the site of a horrific mass murder. The victims were a small group conducting a Bible study. The shooter was a racist, evil person. Nikki Haley was governor back then and she signed an executive order to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds in an effort to bring the community together.

Joe Biden trashed Trump and MAGA Republicans repeatedly in the church rally. He brought up the 2020 election in this speech, too.

Speaking from the pulpit of the South’s oldest African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mr. Biden drew a direct line from slavery, the Civil War and Jim Crow to the divisions of today. Just as it was a “self-serving lie” to call the Confederate rebellion a “noble cause,” the president called Mr. Trump’s insistence that he won the election an effort to rewrite history.

“Once again, there are some in this country trying to turn a loss into a lie — a lie which, if allowed to live, will once again bring terrible damage to this country,” Mr. Biden told about 700 parishioners and other guests at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. “This time, the lie is about the 2020 election.”

I don’t know if this speech brought any black voters in South Carolina back to Biden. I saw a lot of white people in the pews. Biden was interrupted by pro-Hamas protesters who chanted, “Ceasefire now.” Voters don’t want to look to the past, they want to be inspired to look to the future. They expect a presidential candidate to present what they will do if elected. These speeches were not inspiring.
