Woe, Canada: Liberals Brainstorm Spiffy Plan to Beef Up Currently Pathetic Military

The Canadian military has a long and storied history of valour and tenacity. Let's get that out of the way right off the bat.

That small but respected force has withered away in recent years, losing much of its cachet and nearly all of its lethality under the liberal goverments who have held sway in recent decades.

In 2024, military analysts and Canadian government officials themselves were using the term 'death spiral' to describe the state of the Canadian armed forces amid calls for Canada to finally meet its obligations as a NATO member nation.

Canada’s military is in a “death spiral.” This is how Minister of National Defense Bill Blair described the state of Canada’s armed forces at last month’s Ottawa Conference on Security and Defense. Blair’s comments referenced the military’s dire recruitment and retention crisis. The Canadian Armed Forces are short 16,000 people — about 15 percent of their authorized strength of 71,500 regular forces and 30,000 primary reserve forces. Despite efforts such as opening the military to permanent residents, there’s no indication that the situation will improve. Less than 1 percent of applications from permanent residents to join the regular force were accepted, with 15,000 applicants walking away amid the 18- to 24-month-long application process. While the Canadian government has signed several high-profile contractsfor new equipment such as F-35s, Predator drones, and P-8A Poseidons, at this rate, there may not be anybody to use these capabilities when they come online.

Allies and critics are rightfully calling on Canada to meet the 2 percent of gross domestic product spending target agreed to by NATO, but the Canadian military’s troubles are deeper than insufficient funds. Canada’s ability to meaningfully contribute to major allied operations is in doubt for the foreseeable future. Despite increased defense spending by 70percent between 2017 and 2026, an internal report on the readiness of the Canadian Armed Forces was released to the media the same week that Blair made his remarks. The report paints a bleak picture: Most of Canada’s major fleets are unavailable or unserviceable. Indeed, on average, only 45 percent of Canada’s air force fleet is operational, while the Royal Canadian Navy can operate at 46 percent of its capacity and the army at 54 percent. This means that even Canada’s minor military projection ambition — which consists of only three frigates, two fighter jet squadrons, and one mechanized brigade — is not assured. As the ninth largest economy in the world and twelfth largest per capita, Canada actually contributes little to allied security and cannot be relied upon to sustain its own limited ambition.

Liberal tinkering with social constructs, as well as the dismantling of sacred and time-honoured traditions instead of reinforcing pride in service and the defensive and strategic needs of their country's armed forces, inevitably resulted in a caricature of a military.

...The Trudeau government  issued directives restricting military chaplains from reciting formal prayers during official Remembrance Day ceremonies. This policy aims to align with "Gender-Based" principles, and warns of disciplinary measures for non-compliance.

Don't let the liberals catch you praying to a Christian god.

Riddled with progressive malignancies couched in approved language only for specialised victim groups.

Canadian military apologizes after post leaves Jews out of Holocaust message

The Canadian Army said it acknowledges that its social media post 'did not clearly and explicitly identify Jews as the victims of the Holocaust'

The Canadian Army has apologized after a post on International Holocaust Remembrance Day did not mention the Jewish community.

The military shared a message on social media on Jan. 27, addressing the “victims that suffered and died at the hands of Fascism for being members of marginalized groups.” The post continued: “We must take time to recognize that a society built on fear, divisiveness, and marginalization will lead to tragedy. We must strive for a culture of inclusiveness and diversity so that we can continue to build a strong and resilient society together, free of antisemitism and hate.”

A deeply woke and unserious force.

A laughingstock.

Canada's latest disaster of a Prime Minister, globalist banker and World Economic Forum insider Mark Carney, has announced a 'boost' in Canadian defense spending. Not necessarily to meet NATO requirements or because it's long overdue, but because Donald Trump irritates him. And he has to look like he's doing something while he's sucking up to China.

Carney is literally helping out his Davos bros through the defense contracts he's handing out.

Canadian arms manufacturing will never be able to produce what they need to procure and maintain. Ergo, for all Carney's made-in-Canada posturing while still icing out the Americans, he's worked a deal with the Europeans for stuff.

Paying additional fees to Europe to prove you're not American. By God, he's sure showing us, isn't he?

Plus, Carney's got lots of side deals with the Chinese. Always the Chinese (see David's earlier post on that here).

In the meantime, that feeble Canadian military, with Russia and China on the prowl in the Arctic Circle, a massive chunk of which is the Canadian border?

Oh, they're gameplanning for invasions, alright - just from the wrong direction.

Much like everything else they've been doing.

WE NEED TO BE READY WHEN TRUMP INVADES

...These same potential threats are also driving a reconfiguration of the Canadian Army.

Remarkably, however, the Canadian Armed Forces are reportedly also now looking at how they would respond to a hypothetical U.S. military invasion of Canada. Officials have stressed that they don’t think it is likely that U.S. President Donald Trump would order an invasion of Canada, and that the war-gamed scenarios were entirely conceptual in nature.

Interestingly, these concepts reportedly involve the Canadian Armed Forces adopting asymmetric tactics, “similar to those employed against Russia and later U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan,” according to two senior Canadian government officials, who spoke to The Globe and Mail on condition of anonymity.

The same newspaper suggests that this war-gaming is the first time in a century that the Canadian Armed Forces have looked at a hypothetical American assault on the country, which is not only a founding member of NATO but also, under NORAD, a close partner with the U.S. military in continental air defense. Canada is expected to be part of the Trump administration’s forthcoming Golden Dome missile defense system.

Undoubtedly, however, relations between Canada and the United States have cooled dramatically in recent years.

Classic liberals. Wasting money while creating and then feeding the hysteria they created.

As for the Canadian armed forces themselves - the actual military members who would have to defend their homeland from Trumpistas flooding across a bridge from Michigan or some such scenario - how many are there to do it?

It seems there's a decided lack of enthusiasm for service in Canada, and after what we've been through here during the Biden years, it's not surprsing.

Overall, the Canadian Armed Forces did not recruit and train enough applicants to meet its operational requirements. While thousands applied annually, only 1 out of 13 applicants were successfully recruited. The Canadian Armed Forces did not always know why applicants abandoned their applications during the recruitment process.

We found that the Canadian Armed Forces was experiencing a challenge of attracting and training enough highly skilled recruits to reach full staffing levels for many occupations, such as pilots and ammunition technicians.

During our audit period, the Canadian Armed Forces implemented changes designed to increase the number of recruitments. It was able to recruit more Indigenous and visible minority members, but the representation of women remained below its goals.

Indeed. This so far rings many familiar bells. Pray, continue.

  •  During the period of the audit, the Canadian Armed Forces planned to recruit just over 19,700 new recruits but recruited only around 15,000, falling short by about 4,700 recruits.

...The Canadian Armed Forces has an authorized staffing level of 71,500 Regular Force members and 30,000 Primary Reserve members. As of April 30, 2025, there were 65,154 Canadian Armed Forces Regular Force members and 23,561 Primary Reserve members.

The United States held an election, and recruiting numbers began turning around exponentially even before Donald Trump took office, based purely on the man himself and the team he was assembling.

Canada held an election last spring.

Here is where our two nations' stories diverge.

The liberal Mark Carney, chosen as Prime Minister to succeed to the position after the weepy resignation of Justin 'Fidelito' Trudeau, was formally elected a few months later.

There is now what amounts to a crisis of confidence in the Canadian military, evinced by miserable recruiting numbers and, even worse, dwindling retention in the ranks.

...Numbers obtained by Global News show the retention crisis worsened year over year, as Prime Minister Mark Carney who is attending the NATO summit in Brussels, vows to rebuild the Armed Forces and reduce Canada’s dependence on the U.S.

“The reason why retention has not been improving is because the military has been putting all of his eggs in the recruitment basket,” said Charlotte Duval-Lantoine, a defence analyst with the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.

Knowledge and experience are walking.

...Unless the military can hold onto more currently serving members, Duval-Lantoine doubts it will fill a shortage of roughly 13,000 personnel or meet its targets of 71,500 regular force members and 30,000 reservists by 2030.

“It’s too slow of a growth. There really needs to be more aggressive measures,” she said.

The lack of urgency is quite scary from my point of view.

And I have no idea what this Canadian general is talking about as far as the Canadian military being 'less risk-averse.'

...Canada’s former chief of the defence staff, retired general Wayne Eyre, acknowledges there is no “silver bullet” to solve the personnel crisis, but he would like to see the military be less risk-averse, something the CAF, like most government institutions, has struggled with.

“The secret to success is the willingness to experiment, to try new things. If it doesn’t work well, fine. Learn from it. If it does, take it up to scale,” Eyre said.

“We’ve got to keep our foot on the gas…. We’ve got to get as many qualified members of Canadian society in the door as quickly as possible.”

But Carney's answer to his last point - wanting to get as many Canadians in the door as possible - should chill the general to his very marrow.

Carney's government has just created a new category of immigrants eligible and welcome for entry into Canada - military recruit.

Express entry, no less.

HAWT DAWG, COME ON DOWN

...You read that right… the want foreign nationals (Chinese soldiers) to join their ranks.

The Minister Lena Diab who announced it states — “This will help defend our sovereignty and keep Canadians safe."

It’s about to get a lot easier to use the Canadian military against Canadian citizens, when the soldiers aren't even Canadian.

This is a threat to the National Security of the United States.

I just don't see this ending well.

And what about our border security?

Nope.

I don't see it ending well at all.

What we have to do not to be sucked into their morass will be another matter entirely.
