The lantern went up in the proverbial Olde North Church steeple today, and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was the one hot-footing up the stairs to hang it in the window.

Well now, I’ve never been one to pooh-pooh a real, live “emergency” – gotta move fast when those happen. But the border governors warned Bowser and her fellow Northern, “sanctuary,” holier-than-thou, big city mayors that they were going to start sharing some of that schweet, illegal border crossing love…and no one was more surprised when they DID than Bowser, Lightfoot and Adams, LLC.

They have been relentlessly groaning to the White House – and anyone who would listen – about the buses headed their way for weeks now, tiptoeing the fine line between mouthing the proper, open border platitudes, and watching the reality disgorge from a Greyhound, looking for food and a place to crash. Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot was already planning to storm Washington next week to complain, reports the Washington Examiner.

President Joe Biden continues weathering friendly fire from Democratic mayors over the arrival of immigrants in their cities, an issue that now encompasses Chicago as well as New York City and Washington, D.C .

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot promised to visit Washington this week to meet with members of the Biden administration about migrants arriving in the Windy City from the U.S.-Mexico border.

It had only taken two busloads – TWO – of migrants for her to unload (ALWAYS the “BAD CHRISTIAN” card with these people – what gives?) on Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, who kinda, sorta pointed out who she should actually take her complaints to.

…Chicago received only two busloads before Lightfoot began attacking Abbott, calling him unpatriotic , a racist, and a bad Christian .

Abbott said her ire should be directed at the president rather than at himself.

“Mayor Lightfoot is attacking Texas instead of addressing the real cause of the border crisis: Joe Biden,” he tweeted . “His inaction at our border is putting the lives of Texans at risk & is overwhelming our communities. Texas is doing Biden’s job to secure the border.”…

I’m sorry, ma’am. This is a Wendy’s.

Now, I get that the D.C. mayor is feeling a little put out by both the fact that she’s asked the mushroom in the White House for the National Guard (“NYET!!”), and this Texas guy is doing the equivalent of illegal dumping on her already pretty sorry streets, but girlfriend could have been a bit less smarmily smug about what the border states are facing. The Washington Post says D.C.’s received about 9400 “migrants” on 200 some-odd buses already – barely a day in the life of a teeny Texas border town, but it sure has them frazzled.

…So far, more than 230 buses carrying nearly 9,400 migrants, including families with young children, have arrived in D.C. since Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) began offering free passage to the nation’s capital in April, with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) following suit in May. Last month, buses from Texas started heading to New York and Chicago, too.

Abbott and Ducey, along with many other Republicans, are focusing increased attention on the record number of border crossings by large groups arriving from South and Central America, and as far away as Senegal. Both governors are using the busloads of migrants as a political statement about what they have called lax Biden administration border policies…

…In the process, their arrival has turned D.C. into “an unofficial border town,” said Tatiana Laborde, managing director of SAMU First Response, one of the agencies helping the migrants.

With buses letting off more migrants near Union Station several times a week and D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) and the Biden administration at odds over who should do more to help them, the existing apparatus of support is in triage mode, Laborde said.

“It’s been intense,” she said, in between attending to recently arrived migrants staying inside a temporary shelter run by her organization in Maryland that holds 50 people at a time. “It’s something that we are not used to.”

Welcome to life along that fence y’all badmouthed out of existence. I suppose those FELLOW AMERICANS should just suck it up? We all know the answer to that. Just look at the French Lady press secretary insisting nobody just “walks across the border.” Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

A true Democrat/autocrat to the bones, Bowser went to the “EMERGENCY” switch on the dashboard, and flipped it. It does come with its own set of accessories that are particularly attractive to Democrats, as the DCist explains. So I can see why she invoked it, rather than try to develop a mechanism to manage the situation (Also not a strong point of hers.).

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency Thursday in response to the thousands of migrants who are being sent to the city by bus from Arizona and Texas. At a press conference inside the Wilson Building, she also announced the creation of a government office that is tasked with supporting new arrivals who seek asylum and coordinating the local response.

The time-limited emergency declaration offers Bowser and her administration more power and flexibility, immediately, meaning officials will be able to mobilize people and resources faster and seek federal financial assistance. It’s a declaration she’s exercised to more nimbly manage the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Florence.

AH! “Power and flexibility“! Nothing a good Democrat loves more than expanded power and bending the rules with impunity. BABY! Although I will admit to having to wipe off the monitor at the description of Bowser “nimbly” handling anything. PFFFT! *wipes again*

No, somehow I feel this was all a pre-meditated move. Gin up an “emergency,” pull the powers act, and now you can start manhandling people into either taking these folks, or shoving them on new buses, all lubricated with federal lucre. It’s so patently obvious, I can literally visualize the D.C. council and their fearful fearless leader practicing “EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!” so no one would EVER doubt their earnest sincerity.

I wonder where they got the idea…
