8 Republicans Voted With All House Democrats to Block Mayorkas Impeachment

Democrats get by in the House with a little help from their Republican friends. They blocked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s move to force a straight up or down vote on the impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas Monday night. Eight Republicans voted with all the House Democrats to stop the floor vote, and instead refer the impeachment resolution introduced by Greene to the House Homeland Security Committee.

The vote was 209-201. 12 Democrats and 12 Republicans did not vote. The eight no votes were Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Rep. John Duarte (R-CA), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-OR), and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH).

Taylor Greene’s frustration with the lack of progress she thought was being made with the Mayorkas impeachment process got the better of her and she moved ahead to bring it to a vote in the House. She introduced the resolution to impeach Mayorkas last Thursday. It would force a vote on impeachment without a hearing or committee markup. If it was voted on and passed, it would have sent his impeachment straight to the Senate for trial.

Impeachment in the Senate will not happen. Most Democrats don’t seem to have a problem with the open southern border. Joe Biden put Mayorkas in office and he isn’t going to go along with an impeachment. In other words, any impeachment vote coming out of the House is an exercise in futility. But, it does hold the person accountable for his performance in office, and facts are entered into the record.

DHS released a statement claiming that the House is wasting its time.

The Department of Homeland Security responded to the vote with a statement accusing Congress of “wasting time,” and calling on it to “do its job by funding the government, reforming our broken immigration system, reauthorizing vital tools for DHS, and passing the Administration’s supplemental request to properly resource the Department’s critical work to stop fentanyl and further secure our borders.”

“Secretary Mayorkas continues to be laser-focused on the safety and security of our nation. This baseless attack is completely without merit and a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities,” the statement read.

Malarkey. If Mayorkas is laser-focused on protecting our country and keeping it safe, I’d hate to see what the southern border would look like if he was ignoring it.

The eight Republicans want the impeachment investigation to follow traditional steps. The matter goes back to the Homeland Security Committee where an impeachment inquiry is already underway.

Taylor Greene didn’t accuse Mayorkas of committing any crimes but she did blame him for the state of the southern border.

Democrats did what they do and held together. Republicans did what they do and some splintered off.

In a sane world, Mayorkas would be fired and replaced by the president for his failure to secure the southern border. About 8 million illegal aliens have crossed the border during Biden’s time in office, including about 2 million who are gotaways, the ones that no one knows where they are. They didn’t turn themselves into Border Patrol. They ran and spread out through the country. This is Biden’s world and nothing is sane. He did away with the immigration policies in place at the border on his first day in office. He was desperate to prove he was not like the previous president. Word spread quickly and before anyone knew it, the southern border was overwhelmed with illegal immigrants. The rest is history.

Ultimately, Biden is responsible for immigration policies and securing the southern border. It’s his top job. Biden doesn’t see it that way and has no desire to protect America’s sovereignty. He should be impeached for that alone but he won’t as long as Democrats control the Senate. His top job is to protect the homeland and secure the borders. A country without secure borders is not a sovereign country. Biden doesn’t care. He wants the chaos to distract from everything else that he is doing.

Mayorkas is carrying out Biden’s orders, or whoever is running the country out of the Oval Office. Mayorkas isn’t going to lose his job and the southern border will not be secured as long as Joe Biden is president. We need to fix that in 2024.
