Pro-DeSantis PAC launches offensive against Nikki Haley

It was bound to happen. When Nikki Haley said she would welcome Disney to South Carolina if the company was to leave Florida, it was just a matter of time before the DeSantis-supporting Super PAC launched a response.

At a time when Disney is in hot water with many social conservatives for its embrace of all things woke, and it is taking Governor DeSantis to court over his insistence that Disney should not be entitled to its special privileges forever, Nikki Haley became Mickey Haley. DeSantis is expected to enter the Republican primary next month, or soon after, and Haley was getting in a jab while the getting is good. She was looking at it from the job perspective for residents in her state of South Carolina. Disney World is Florida’s largest employer, with approximately 75,000 employees. If Disney World were to pick up and leave Florida, the void it would create would be huge. So far there is no indication that this will happen but there is a culture war going on between the governor and Disney.

The Super PAC, Never Back Down, doesn’t play patty cake. Their videos get right to the point.

In a video posted on social media, Never Back Down responded to Haley’s appearance on Fox News’ “America Reports” earlier in the day, in which she invited Disney to move its operations to South Carolina, the state where she was once governor, from Florida. She said even though her state is “anti-woke,” she would welcome the six-figure number of jobs the company would bring with it.

The video included what it said were clips of Disney “officials” touting the company’s use of “LGBTQIA characters,” a “not at all secret gay agenda,” and trans, asexual and bisexual characters, and attempted to tie Haley to that highly scrutinized side of the company.

Uh-huh.

Disney filed a lawsuit against DeSantis Wednesday. Disney claims DeSantis is retaliating against the corporation for its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education law, which Democrats call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. So, as DeSantis is about to launch a national campaign, he’s at war with the House of Mouse.

The publicity over the Disney lawsuit came when DeSantis and his wife and children were traveling overseas on behalf of Florida. DeSantis was working on trade deals for his state with Japan, South Korea, and Israel. In Israel, he commemorated the state’s 75th anniversary. DeSantis was in South Korea at the same time President Yoon Suk Yeol was in Washington, D.C. serenading Joe Biden at a state dinner. DeSantis met with the number two in charge, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

NBC News reported on Wednesday that DeSantis is expected to launch an exploratory committee in May.

The report cites four unnamed Republican operatives it said are familiar with the conversations about plans for DeSantis to launch a presidential exploratory committee, with an official launch of his campaign to come at a later time.

Each of the operatives told NBC that a mid-May launch of the committee was the target, but that a number of his supporters wanted him to declare his candidacy by May 11 in order to counter former President Donald Trump’s front-runner status for the Republican nomination.

Others close to the governor, the report said, have argued such an early date would be too soon.

Decisions, decisions.

I’m looking forward to DeSantis jumping into the fray as an official candidate. I think that both Haley and Senator Tim Scott would make good vice-presidential candidates but the real race is between Trump and DeSantis. Trump knows it. That’s why he has been near-hysterical toward DeSantis in his speeches and in the ads the Super PAC that supports him puts out. Things are about to get a lot uglier.
