Tuesday, the DOJ announced it had seized $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations that were intended to go to Hamas.
The Department of Justice today announced the disruption of an ongoing scheme by Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya (Hamas) — a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization — to raise funds for terrorist operations and recruit supporters, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
As part of the Department’s efforts, more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations destined for Hamas were seized and its fundraising and recruitment communication platforms and websites were disrupted. Hamas originally controlled the seized infrastructure and cryptocurrency addresses on behalf of its military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades.
The really bad news for fans of Hamas is that the DOJ didn't just seize the funds, it seized the website and the platform Hamas was using to solicit the funds. That means they have information on lots of the donors.
In addition to seizing cryptocurrency meant to support Hamas’ military wing, the department said that it had taken control of website domains and communication platforms used for fundraising and recruitment, and had obtained information about thousands of people who had contacted Hamas with a goal of giving money to the group...
According to FBI affidavits filed in connection with the seizures, Hamas began testing virtual currency fundraising in or around early 2019 through its Qassam Brigades, or military wing, and solicited donations on its Telegram channel and also used direct online fundraising. Hamas officials bragged that the currency would be untraceable and their websites offered instructions for how to make anonymous donations, the affidavits say.
A major investigative break arrived last year when FBI officials identified a financing network soliciting donations to the Qassam Brigades via virtual currency and a confidential source located in the United States alerted law enforcement to a Telegram post asking for contributions to an email address associated with Hamas.
The seizure warrants for all of this happened last year. So anyone trying to fund Hamas using this pathway since then has probably wound up with an FBI file.
As described in the three unsealed cryptocurrency seizure warrants, on March 25, 2025, June 25, 2025, and Oct. 10, 2025, investigators used information from multiple human sources to identify, trace, and seize approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency intended to support Hamas’ Al Qassam Brigades.
In conjunction with these seizures, the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office worked with human sources to identify and seize domains and servers the Al Qassam Brigades that controlled its main website, AlQassam.ps. The FBI’s capture of these domains and servers enabled it to intercept cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas. Using related sources and methods, the FBI also obtained information regarding thousands of individuals who contacted Hamas online in an effort to donate or attempt to donate to the terrorist organization using cryptocurrency and other traditional means. Such information will be used in the FBI’s future counterterrorism efforts.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro made the announcement in a video released Tuesday.
Hamas tried to hide its money online. We found it.

$560,000+ in cryptocurrency seized. Hamas websites and servers taken down.
We will use every tool at our disposal to cut off terrorist financing and disrupt Hamas wherever it operates—including in cyberspace. https://t.co/WJ4DKyEPJg pic.twitter.com/x5xzlCNGvx
I wonder if there are any Hollywood celebrities or pro-Palestinian campus organizers on that list. It sure would be interesting to find out.
Honestly the amount of money involved here isn't that large. I suspect Hamas has much larger sources of income than this to count on. What's more exciting is the possibility that the FBI has ID'd a bunch of domestic supporters of terrorism. Hopefully the FBI will charge some of the U.S. based donors as material supporters and send them to prison.
