H.R.734 passed in the House along party lines on Thursday with a vote of 219-203. The bill protects biological women in sports. It prohibits federal funding to institutions that allow people assigned male at birth to participate on women’s sports teams or in events.

It is called the ” Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” bill. In a sane world, this would be the first step to protecting women’s sports, but we know we don’t live in a sane world. This is Biden’s America and Democrats frame such protection as “bullying.” Joe Biden has vowed to veto the bill if it ends up on his desk. He won’t have to worry about making good on that promise because the Democrat-controlled Senate won’t allow it to get to his desk.

Gender dysphoria is a serious issue and I am not here to make light of anything. I will, however, always stand up in support of girls and women in sports and their right to compete against their biological competitors, not men who identify as women. I’ll rant if I want to. There is no entitlement that says men have to be allowed to compete with biological women just because we now live in a time that transgenderism is being normalized in our society.

The whole purpose of Title IX and the battles previous generations of women fought to organize girls and women to compete in sports was centered around equality. Women wanted the opportunity to compete in sports and receive the opportunities it presented, the same as men. There is nothing equal about men competing with women and taking a scholarship or a place on a team away from a biological woman who has trained and sacrificed for years to participate in that sport. It is unfair. It is wrong. It is unsportsmanlike. It is not bullying to acknowledge any of that. It’s the truth. It is science and I’m old enough to remember when Democrats were obsessed with inserting science into every argument. It is completely applicable to this argument. There is a reason that female Olympian athletes are drug-tested for testosterone, for example. It gives them an unfair advantage against other female athletes.

Supporters said the legislation, which would put violators at risk of losing taxpayer dollars, is necessary to ensure competitive fairness. They framed the vote as supporting female athletes disadvantaged by having to compete against those whose gender identify does not match their sex assigned at birth. Opponents criticized the bill as ostracizing an already vulnerable group for political gain.

The House action comes as at least 20 other states have imposed similar limits on trans athletes at the K-12 or collegiate level.

The bill would amend landmark civil rights legislation passed more than 50 years ago to prohibit recipients of federal money from permitting a person “whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.” The bill defines sex as “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

Democrats argued that every child deserves the opportunity to belong to a team. They claimed that “preventing competitors from doing so sends the message that they don’t matter.” Here’s the thing – I agree that all children deserve the opportunity to play sports on a team if they qualify for that team’s requirements. However, we are in new territory with the inclusion of men in women’s sports. Transgender athletes must have their own teams and competitions against other transgendered athletes. Let women play women’s sports.

It’s a shame we have a feckless and feeble president at a time like this. Joe Biden says at every opportunity that he is a huge supporter of women, starting with his wife and her career. Progressives are so caught up in all the transgender agenda and the intimidation that comes along with it if someone disagrees with part of that agenda that they are blinded to what this does to women’s sports. It cancels women’s sports. There will be no such thing soon if transgender women are allowed to compete with biological women. Is that the Democrats’ idea of supporting women now? Where are the feminists who fought for Title IX and women’s sports? Feminists have proven to be the most cowardly people of all. They should be leading marches and protests to garner attention to this problem. And, professional women athletes who turn a blind eye or are ok with transgender women taking opportunity away from biological women are the worst of all.

Rep. Mark Pocan, a Democrat of Wisconsin, said most people in the United States don’t know anyone who is transgender and that can create fear for politicians to exploit. The bill, he said, does nothing to address the severe inequities in the resources dedicated to men’s and women’s sports.

He highlighted the stance taken by GOP Gov. Spencer Cox of Utah, who last year vetoed a bill banning transgender students from playing girls sports. Cox said: “I struggle to understand so much of it and the science is conflicting. When in doubt however, I always try to err on the side of kindness, mercy and compassion.”

Pocan noted that in Utah at the time of the veto there were four transgender players out of 85,000 competing in high school sports, with only one competing in girls sports.

“There’s your raging national problem,” Pocan said. “What’s the Republicans response to this nonexistent issue? Hurt kids for being kids.”

Democrats may mock this as not a pressing national issue but opposition to the canceling of women in sports has to start somewhere. How about if that Democrat from Wisconsin had a daughter who had an experience on a team like Riley Gaines had on her team? Would he think a little more reasonably? For whom does he “err on the side of kindness, mercy, and compassion?” Men in women’s sports may be an unusual occurrence now but it will increase unless it is stopped. Even one young woman who experiences what Riley Gaines, for example, experienced is one too many.

This is a short-term victory for House Republicans but it opens the door to some common sense solutions. This is something that has to be addressed.
