The issue of rising crime rates in cities across America came home to roost early Friday morning when an assailant broke into the San Francisco home of Paul and Nancy Pelosi. Paul Pelosi, 82, was “violently assaulted”, according to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. The attacker is in custody.

The Pelosi home is in Pacific Heights which has been listed among the top 10 richest neighborhoods in San Francisco. The motive for the break-in and violent assault on Paul Pelosi is not known at this time.

‘Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,’ Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement.

‘The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery,’ Hammill added.

Hammill said the family thanks first responders and medical professionals. They request privacy at this time.

As the news broke on Friday morning, there were few details released. Speaker Pelosi was not home at the time of the attack. She just returned to Washington earlier this week from a conference in Croatia. Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at an advocacy event Saturday night with Vice President Kamala Harris.

It’s impossible to know at this time if it was a random act of violence that happened during a home burglary or if it was an act by someone with a grudge against Paul Pelosi. Was it a person disgruntled with Democrats and Speaker Pelosi? What it does do, though, is drive home how prevalent crime is in Biden’s America. Crime is on the rise and it is a top concern of voters in the midterm elections. Democrats continue to try to make abortion and preserving democracy the top themes in their campaigns and it is failing miserably because of the reality in everyday life for most Americans. Voters are worried about the safety of their family and friends.

Even someone as well-protected as Nancy Pelosi cannot escape the impact of rising crime rates. Democrat policies in major cities across the country have added to the rise in crime and San Francisco is no exception. Even with a new district attorney, residents say that crime and danger is only getting worse, not better.

In June, San Francisco voted to recall then-District Attorney Chesa Boudin, whose critics said he implemented progressive policies such as eliminating cash bail and had a soft-handed approach toward drug crimes. Boudin’s replacement, Brooke Jenkins, has reversed many of her predecessor’s policies since being appointed, but that hasn’t made the city noticeably safer, residents told Fox News.

“Safety in California and San Francisco is horrible,” Keith, a longtime San Franciscan, said. “I do not feel safe in the city at all.”

“On crime, they don’t do anything, they just let the criminals out,” he continued.

Keith, who worked at a grocery store in the San Francisco Marina, said criminals used to steal goods from the store, and employees were advised to do nothing. He blamed Proposition 47, a California measure passed in 2014 that prevents shoplifters from being charged with a felony if they steal $950 or less worth of goods.

San Francisco residents are fed up and blame Democrats for being too soft on crime.

On Wednesday, Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to her colleagues in the House and addressed the Democrats’ commitment to public safety. It was the latest of her regular “Dear Colleague” letters to Democrats in the House. The letter gave some talking points that Democrats can use on the campaign trail. Pelosi knows that her party is blamed for rising crime rates.

As Democrats, we believe that every American deserves to live in a safe community, which is a necessary foundation upon which America’s families can thrive. We have emphasized respect for those who serve and for those whom they serve: with accountability and transparency. That is why our House Majority has taken strong action to honor our men and women in blue with the resources they need to prevent crime, while building stronger, healthier relationships between law enforcement and those they serve:

*Enacting the American Rescue Plan to fund our police and ensure that local law enforcement agencies could continue keeping our communities safe amid the pandemic — without a single Republican vote.

*Enacting March’s omnibus government funding package to secure a half-billion-dollar increase for local and state law enforcement, while also investing in smart community-based violence intervention programs.

*Passing the Invest to Protect Act to advance strong measures proven to improve public safety: helping small, local and rural law enforcement agencies retain and recruit officers, while ensuring strong guardrails and accountability measures.

As we highlight our commitment to combating crime, we must also share with the American people Democrats’ historic achievements to reduce gun violence and mandate universal background checks on all gun purchases — an essential piece of public safety. Our Democratic House Majority has boldly acted to take on the gun lobby, to keep our children safe and to support our law enforcement heroes:

*Enacting the landmark Safer Communities Act, a monumental step forward in getting deadly weapons out of dangerous hands, while investing in critical mental health resources.

*Passing the Assault Weapons Ban, a common-sense measure proven to save lives while in effect two decades ago.

*Passing the Protecting Our Kids Act to require safe storage and outlaw high-capacity magazines.

*Passing the Active Shooter Alert Act to create an AMBER Alert-style warning during mass shootings.

The problem for Democrats is that they are the party that supports the Defund the Police movement. Democrats in Washington, D.C. sat on the sidelines and said nothing during the Summer of Love in 2020 while anti-police activists and BLM supporters participated in protests that frequently turned into riots. Cities across the country experienced looting and destruction at the hands of rioters. Some Democrat members of Congress participated in protests. Voters haven’t forgotten.

I wish Paul Pelosi a speedy and complete recovery.

* UPDATE: It is now being reported that Nancy Pelosi was the target of this attack. He yelled, “Where is Nancy?” The intruder struck Paul Pelosi in the head with a hammer, according to local law enforcement.

A man broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home in the overnight hours and attacked Mr. Pelosi, the local police said. The assailant targeted the Pelosi home and was looking for the speaker, law-enforcement officials said.

The intruder shouted, “Where is Nancy?” before attacking her husband, one of the officials said.

The intruder broke in through a sliding-glass door and beat Mr. Pelosi with a hammer, one of the officials said, leaving him badly injured with wounds to the head and body. The alleged assailant was arrested.

*UPDATE Latest update comes from Chief William Scott of the San Francisco Police Department. He said that both Paul Pelosi and the intruder held hammers. The 42-year-old intruder wrestled the hammer from Pelosi. He entered through a sliding glass door. The suspect will be charged with attempted homicide, burglary, elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and several additional felonies.
