Trump suggests Hillary not tough enough with video of her barking like a dog

Donald Trump began turning his attention to the likely Democratic nominee Wednesday, posting a brief video to his Instagram account which features a clip of Hillary Clinton barking like a dog.

The thrust of the clip is that Clinton is not tough enough to lead the U.S. in a dangerous world. A series of title cards read, “When it comes to facing our toughest opponents, the democrats have the perfect answer…” This is interspersed with video of Russian President Vladmir Putin doing judo and a masked man, possibly a member of ISIS, pointing a gun at viewers. Then the video cuts to Clinton barking. The clip closes with video of Putin laughing followed by a title card that reads, “We don’t need to be a punchline!”

The video of Clinton is taken from a February event in Reno, Nevada. Clinton was recalling an old radio ad in which the announcer claimed a dog had been trained to bark any time a candidate lied. “I’m trying to figure out how we can do that with the Republicans,” Clinton said. “We need to get that dog and follow them around and every time they say these things like ‘oh, the great recession was caused by too much regulation'” she added before launching into the barks.

Clinton’s attempt to frame her opponents as liars at the Reno rally was probably not a spur of the moment decision. Just a few days before trotting out the story about the lie-detecting dog an exit poll from New Hampshire found honesty was a factor in her loss to Bernie Sanders.

Clinton won 5 of 5 primaries Tuesday night, making her nomination appear all but inevitable. As the LA Times reports, she immediately turned her fire on Trump:

“Our next commander in chief has to be able to defend our country, not embarrass it; engage our allies, not alienate them,” she said.
