Coleman died Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, his daughter, singer Quincy Coleman, told The Hollywood Reporter. ...

More recently, the good-natured Coleman brought along his signature mustache to play Burton Fallin, the owner of a law firm and father of Simon Baker’s character, on the CBS drama The Guardian; was Atlantic City power broker Commodore Louis Kaestner on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire; and played John Dutton Sr. (the father of Kevin Costner’s character) on Yellowstone.

Rest in peace and thanks for all of the great entertainment, Mr. Coleman. I absolutely loved him on screen and his delicious way of playing three-dimensional characters, even the jerks. It's impossible to pick my favorite role of his, but one of them was as Tom Hanks' dad in You've Got Mail, a more sympathetic character than usual for him. Like the late Paul Gleason, Coleman could make you relate to the less-sympathetic characters he played.

I might want to watch The Man With One Red Shoe again tonight in his honor, another Hanks collaboration.
