Tuesday's Final Word

Tuesday after work -- I'm just beginning to close all my tabs ...

Ed: And here I thought his dumbest move was to represent himself in an assassination-attempt trial.

===

Fox News: His daughter, Sara Routh, reportedly stood up and said:

"Don’t do anything. I will get you out. What the f---, f---, he didn’t hurt anybody. This is not fair. This is all rigged – you guys are a--holes." The jury was still in the room at the time.

Routh, 59, was charged on five federal criminal counts, including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and multiple firearms offenses.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Ed: I see that intellect runs in the family. It doesn't matter that he didn't get the shot off; he broke a lot of laws before getting that opportunity. These questions are why people hire lawyers, who can then try to find some kind of deal with prosecutors. "This is not fair" is the chef's-kiss perfect cri de entitled coeur.

===

Ed: Not just "three hours later," but also "four years before." We knew all of this was happening WHEN it was happening. We had all the evidence for it from the Twitter Files three years ago. And yet the Protection Racket Media insists on acting as though the world came into being on January 20, 2025, and that Democrats have no dirty hands on censorship.

Free Beacon: Even though ABC is bringing back Jimmy Kimmel following a suspension for his controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk's assassination, the beleaguered late-night host will still lose around a quarter of his audience as broadcasting groups Nexstar and Sinclair announce that their ABC affiliates will keep the show off the air.

"A total of 66 ABC affiliates won't air [Kimmel]," Fox Business journalist Elizabeth MacDonald reported in a Tuesday X post, noting that Nexstar and Sinclair "cover about a quarter of ABC's overall total viewers."

"For Kimmel, he just lost about a third to 40% of his viewers depending on the quarterly result used," MacDonald went on.

Ed: I made this point in an earlier post, too. Together, Nexstar and Sinclair account for roughly 25% of ABC's affiliates. However, because Nexstar and Sinclair's affiliates tend to be in larger markets, they represent roughly 40% of potential viewers. By the way, those markets are probably where Kimmel does best; smaller markets probably don't have too many potential viewers in Kimmel's urban-progressive-activist target demo. He may well lose more than a quarter of his audience -- and so will his advertisers.

"Yesterday I wrote and immediately deleted 2 responses to him about Kimmel because they could be misinterpreted as a threat to anything besides his career. I immediately replaced them with ones specifying what I actually meant."

"I oppose and condemn political violence, and the threat of it. All times are the wrong time to leave even an inadvertent impression of it - but this time is especially wrong  I should've acknowledged the deletion and apologized yesterday. I'm sorry I delayed."

Ed: I'll confess my unpopular opinion here -- I don't think Olbermann's comment warranted an FBI review. I doubt Scott Jennings thought so either; his copy to Kash Patel's Twitter handle was more of a statement about equal treatment. I am surprised that Olbermann actually apologized, and did so with apparent sincerity rather than offer a sorry-you-misunderstood-my-genius non-apology. Good for him. Now, maybe Olbermann can tell Kimmel to do the same thing.

Hollywood in Toto: Yes, the man who spends every show eviscerating all things GOP, ignored President Joe Biden’s dementia-like condition and played pussyfoot with Hunter Biden and Cassidy Hutchinson isn’t a “movement liberal.”

This isn’t the Daily Kos or some fly-by-night blog. This is … Variety.

And, to preserve Kimmel’s career and reputation, the venerable outlet decided to mislead at every step.

Now, ask yourself, “Why?”

Ed: Oh, we KNOW why ... Kimmel hasn't been a comedian in years. He's Lonesome Rhodes without the cornpone schtick. He participated in the Joe Biden fraud perpetrated on the American electorate, fronting for Biden as "sharp as a tack" while he couldn't find his way off Kimmel's fundraising stage. Kimmel is a progressive demagogue with a rapidly dissipating appeal. However, Variety is part of the same corrupt progressive elite and the same propaganda machine.

Ed: Congrats to Carla! I'm looking forward to reading the book. Give her a like and a follow if you get a chance.

Ed: I defy you to unsee that after that description.

Katherine Dee at The Spectator: Earlier this month, a gunman opened fire at a Turning Point USA event, fatally shooting conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. In the past year or so, 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow killed a teacher and a fellow student in Madison, Wisconsin, before taking her own life. Solomon Henderson opened fire in a Nashville school cafeteria. Luigi Mangione allegedly murdered healthcare executive Brian Thompson. Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC.

These episodes are not identical. What unites them is an atmosphere: not tidy ideology but an appetite for meaning where meaning has been hollowed out.

Two specters haunt our culture, and both conclude that life should be extinguished. The first says life is meaningless. The second says life is suffering. They arrive at the same destination from different directions. The nihilists believe in the void. For them, all human values are illusions, all meaning is projection, all morality is “cope.” Violence becomes their demonstration: proof that nothing matters.

Ed: There's another aspect to nihilism that may be driving young people even more crazy. When they are taught to believe that nothing matters, then the only value is your own self. Nihilism leads directly to narcissism, and malignant narcissism is the disease of our time -- amplified by cell phones and social media. People don't just become the center of the universe, but the entirety of the universe. It's almost a contagious sociopathy.

Ed: Too bad the UK and France are too benighted to understand this. Although, one has to laugh at the UK, which just received a $2 trillion claim for "reparations" from the Palestinian Authority in response to Starmer's recognition of a Palestinian state.

===

Mike Pompeo at The Free Press: Make no mistake: The decision by these countries to treat “Palestine” as an independent state ratifies the logic of the terrorists who, nearly two years ago to the day, perpetrated the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The twisted logic that this move will somehow isolate Hamas by empowering the illegitimate, unpopular, terror-supporting Palestinian Authority is beyond fanciful. As the perpetrators of the October 7, 2023 attack, Hamas—which has already lauded the move as “a deserved outcome of our people’s struggle”—will continue to claim that achieving statehood was their doing. And they will be right. Far from damaging Hamas, it will empower them, while broadcasting to the Middle East and the world at large that terrorism gets results.

The actions taken by these countries represent the worst kind of diplomatic fantasy. Diplomats must be in the business of dealing with the world as it is, not as they’d like it to be. That’s not what they’re doing here.

Recognizing a Palestinian state where none exists is not only a bad idea because of its practical implications for security; it fails at the first hurdle, as the most basic requirements of sovereignty are absent. What will the borders of this so-called Palestinian state be, and how will that be settled? How can the Palestinian Authority—which has not held elections in 20 years—be considered a legitimate governing authority in any sense of the word? Who signs the documents, makes the laws, and controls the military? No one has been able to answer these baseline questions amid their preening and pontificating.

Ed: That's all this is -- performative preening, pontificating, and expressions of anti-Semitism. They are enabling the terrorists who want to annihilate Israel. Singapore recognizes it; why can't the UK and France? I suspect that two decades of immigration has a lot to do with the answer.
