Are we in World War III? Or IV? The Amiable Skeptics with Adam Baldwin!

And if we are, just how prepared are we to fight it? Mark Levin argues that “the Ukraine conflict is the first hot war battle of World War III,” Adam Baldwin says. “China is on the march, Russia is on the march, Iran is with them,” Adam continues. “This is the modern axis of World War III.” This is the fruit of “a huge strategic error” on China “made repeatedly by presidents of both parties,” I argue, “and the same thing is true about Russia.” It’s yet another conflict between imperialism and liberty, both of us agree — but is the United States up to the challenge?

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

First we have to name it properly. “I kind of thought World War III was the fight against Islamofascism,” I suggest, a bit tongue in cheek. “We might be actually up to World War IV at this point.” More seriously, I point out that we also missed the larger arc with Iran as well as Russia and China. But we both agree that China’s the most potent threat at the moment.

“China is using the Belt and Road Initiative to get blue-water ports all over the world,” I point out, while rapidly expanding their blue-water navy. “The Belt and Road Initiative has been going on for years and gets almost no mention in American media,” I continue. China uses it “to leverage poorer countries into debt to China and then having to accept Chinese sovereignty over their territory,” allowing for a rapid expansion of China’s military.

“They already claim the Taiwan Strait as their own backyard,” Adam replies, “and their own territorial waters. Who’s going to dispute that? Not Biden.”

Can he? Can we? History may be repeating itself in another conflict of empires, but we may not be capable of repeating our role as the Arsenal of Democracy, I argue. “This is a big issue that nobody really wants to talk a whole hell of a lot about,” I tell Adam. “We’re no longer in a position to be an arsenal of democracy. We don’t have the manufacturing capability anymore. We don’t produce enough of our own steel. We don’t dig it out, we don’t get the ore out of the ground. We don’t have people who are trained to do this any longer,” I continue. “We don’t have that type of economy any longer.”
