This Is All So Tiresome

The climate change fanatics have been remarkably quiet of late, largely because there are so many other frauds and left-wing issues to scream about. 

Since every issue is bound up with The Revolution and destroying Western Society, the Left can avoid the climate issue in this somewhat difficult economic environment for the most part. 

But the true fanatics can be nothing but fanatical, so they are still trying to garner attention for their own grift; most of them are true believers as well as grifters who make a living off of scaring people. It's not just a job; it's a lifestyle.

Personally, the most annoying climate scam ever was the Polar Bear scare, for some reason. People, because they never have any interaction with Polar Bears, find them cute and fluffy. I am certain that there is an element of white privilege involved; if they were brown bears, the police would be shooting them. But so it goes. 

The polar bear scam, which has mostly receded, was particularly annoying to me because we have seen something of a polar bear population explosion over the past few decades, and even though the animals are protected, the United Nations actually gives out hunting licenses for them. 

It was pure feelz, and so easily proven to be so, but the media ate it up. 

We hadn't heard about the coral bleaching problem in a while, but I looked on Google, and among the climate alarmists, it is still a big deal. Google will do its best to scare the hell out of you, following the conventional wisdom. 

As Bjorn Lomberg points out, the poster child of the coral reef die-off is doing amazingly well and, in fact, is at record levels. Not that something like this matters, or that coral reefs regularly go through die-offs for various reasons as part of their natural life cycle. And it is hardly the case that oceans have constant temperatures over time; they have been much warmer historically, and much cooler, and different species of coral thrive in different conditions. 

As conditions change, the composition of the coral reef does. Cycle of life, evolution, and all that. You know, nature. Ever heard of it?

It's the same sort of sleight of hand you see in most propaganda; when it isn't outright lying, it's distorting to make a point. 

Sabina Hossenfelder, who is hardly a "climate denier," as they say, went through the way that headlines manipulate people on the "warming faster than everywhere on Earth" scam.

It's pretty clever, actually, and totally emblematic. In a nutshell, assuming you believe the data, you would expect every country on Earth to warm faster than the Earth because...water has a higher heat capacity than land, and the Earth is 70+ water, so you expect that land-based countries would warm (and cool) faster than the entire Earth. 

That's why cities around the Great Lakes or near oceans are warmer at the same latitudes than, say, Minnesota during winter. The lake effect. Add in wind patterns, and the differences can be HUGE. 

London is 6.5 degrees farther north in latitude than Minneapolis, but its winters are mild and ours require us to wear spacesuits on the coldest days. Minneapolis is, on average 25 degrees F. cooler than London. 

Winnipeg is slightly south of London, and the average low is 40 degrees colder. 

Lesson: live near the ocean if you like milder weather. 

Ignoring reality, or at least the entire context of the real world, makes propaganda so much more effective. 

Of course, if you told me that global warming would cause a die-off of media conglomerates, I would trade in my V8 Lexus for a Mack truck or something bigger.
