The Left's Schizophrenia About 'Culture'

The left is schizophrenic about the concept of "culture."

By "schizophrenic" I mean both in the sense that people often, wrongly, understand the term as something akin to "multiple personality disorder," and in the somewhat more clinical sense of being disconnected from reality, suffering from delusions, and being unable to think clearly. 

London, England – multicultural and multi-faith, with different races, genders, and religions all mixing together and getting along peacefully.

The delusions are difficult to miss. As neighborhoods become no-go zones where people don't speak the common language, understand, or obey the dominant norms, and are filled with people who want to supplant the culture that welcomed them, liberals wax poetic about the introduction of curry and how burkinis are actually really great.

The streets of London are regularly blocked by Muslims, closing them down to do their prayers in a way to maximally inconvenience the larger population. It is a power flex, as are the frequent marches in the street with people carrying the flags of terrorist groups and proclaiming the desire to impose Sharia law. 

This is Britain.

We all know the basic facts about which I am speaking, and why I consider the liberal position that "diversity is our strength" delusional. This kind of diversity is, in fact, weakening British culture both directly and indirectly. Laws apply differently to people depending on their race and religion, and a substantial fraction of the "diverse" population makes no bones about hating ordinary Britons.

But there is also an indirect effect that we can now see: ordinary Britons are becoming disaffected and distrustful of their elite, and the rise of populist anger has led me to call my bookmark folder on this issue "British Revolution." Britain is being split apart because the elite believes in a delusion of a harmonious multicultural future.

That, too, is obvious once you step back. Migrants are encouraged to hold on to their "culture" and not integrate because all cultures are equally valuable, and it would be "colonialist" and racist to expect migrants to adjust to the larger culture that welcomed them.

But that only applies to the migrants. All cultures may be equal, but all others are much more equal to the Western cultures that welcomed the migrants. Westerners are told to subordinate their values or even offer up their daughters as sexual human sacrifices to men who believe they have the right to rape them. Even judges in Great Britain will excuse Muslims who rape young English girls because that is "their culture."

Western culture, it turns out, not only has no value to liberals, but quite the opposite. We are the bad guys. Far from being part of that great multicultural experiment the left wants to impose on us, we are to be culturally wiped out. 

It's called "decolonization," which is just the cultural Marxist term for eradicating Western ideas. 

Intellectually, it's fascinating in the same way that reading a book about the psychology of madmen can be. The intellectual construct of leftism resembles an Escher drawing. Looked at logically, it doesn't work at all, but it sure twists your mind. 

Westerners are supposed to toss out everything that makes us Westerners, embrace people who explicitly say that they want to replace us, revel in this because the food is good at least, and pretend that this will lead us to utopia.

See? Schizophrenic. It only makes sense if you ignore the facts on the ground.
