We live in a society where it has become increasingly common to be harsh to people with common-sense values and increasingly difficult to challenge certain forms of prejudice, lawlessness, and outright hatred of Western values.

Pushing conformity on people is not always a good thing. Nonconformists drive progress, and positive transformations of society have often resulted from people pushing back against destructive norms. The Civil Rights movement is the best example of my lifetime, but there are many others. Progress in science, public policy, and many areas of life is often driven by people who are jerks, as Megan McArdle recently wrote.

On the other hand, given today’s embrace of intersectional critical theory, the best characteristics of Western society are often the most criticized. Or, at the very least, values that have helped drive our society forward are under the harshest attack.

Those attacks come from people who hate the West, and let’s be frank about it, from people who adhere to values that are antithetical to human rights and decency.

Our societies have been invaded by people and ideologies that are destructive to our society. I believe that Western values are, in many cases, far superior to those held by its worst critics. I could come up with a long list of things that could and should be improved in Western beliefs and practices. Still, I have no patience when it comes to barbarians who support the mistreatment of women, the wanton murder of civilians, or the oppression of others.

In recent months we have been treated to literal parades of people who have celebrated the rape and murder of women and children and, in many cases, have called for the genocide of others. Many of these people are Muslims from the Middle East, but many others have been cultural Marxists who make common cause with Antifa and terrorists because they hate the West.

They are all horrible in my book. I care less about who is trying to destroy our civilization than what their motivation is and how to stop them.

First things first, then, is reversing the increase in anti-Western forces. This requires a total revamp of our education system, which inculcates anti-Western values, as well as a reform of our immigration system. The whole “diversity is our strength” mantra is bunk. In recent years, diversity has been a source of weakness.

The color of an immigrant’s skin shouldn’t matter–unless we abandon integration and import new entrants into our society who expect special treatment for being members of an “oppressed” class.

But values matter a lot, and we must quit bringing people into our country whose mission is to revamp it. If you want to live in the West, commit to becoming a Westerner. Otherwise, go somewhere else or stay home.

More and more common people have come to this conclusion, but the evidence that the transnational elite has is…underwhelming. The elites don’t like their citizens and are happy to replace us.

Not that they would be happier with the new batch they are creating and importing. It’s not like the Muslim immigrants calling for Sharia law in London would embrace their overlords, and Antifa isn’t known for loving the elite.

But so far that doesn’t seem to have sunk in, and may not until it is too late.  Our elites are midwits who think they are geniuses, after all. And they distrust anything that seems obvious to those of us who live in the real world.

Our elites will likely not change our minds, so the fate of the West will be determined by whether we can change our elites.

I have my doubts, but we can try.
