Democrats, it is time to clean house.
Or, I should qualify that: it is long past the time you should have cleaned house. But rather than kick out the extremists, you Democrats have pretended that they are simply excitable social justice zealots who are a bit hyperbolic, but otherwise perfectly normal political allies.
First let’s admit something: every political movement and party has some extremist hangers-on, and it isn’t fair to tar a whole group as extremists without significant evidence that the group is fine with being allied to them.
Lyndon LaRouche, for instance, was a Democrat, but nobody thought he was representative of the party. David Duke was a Republican and a raving racist, but most Republicans rejected him. He was denounced by Republicans all the way up to the President.
The Democrats’ current problem isn’t a few people who are off the reservation; there is a wing of the Democrat Party that actively embraces terrorism and justifies the current wave of terror in Israel and even violence against “colonizers” in the United States. My guess is that about 20% or more of Democrats–mostly the younger generation–are perfectly fine with political violence.
People just discovered she was a terrorist sympathizer? 🤦🏻👉Boston city councilor’s description of Hamas attack as ‘massive military operation’ sparks outrage https://t.co/YcTc0mqZWB

Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson’s resolution calling on Boston to declare the Hamas terrorist organization a “militant group” that launched a “massive military operation” in Israel has infuriated some of her council colleagues.
Her call for de-escalation and a cease-fire in Israel and “occupied Palestine” was introduced at a Wednesday City Council meeting in response to one filed earlier in the week by Councilor Michael Flaherty, who wanted to condemn “Hamas and their brutal terrorist acts against Israel.”
“To call them a militant group that launched a massive military operation is completely absurd and disgusting,” Flaherty told the Herald. “That wasn’t a military operation. That was a terrorist attack — and it was the worst barbaric aggression towards innocent Jews and innocent Jewish people since the Holocaust.”
Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, Canada and the European Union.
For years we have heard Leftists chant “By any means necessary,” and for some reason, people didn’t believe they meant it even after the George Floyd riots in 2020. The takeover of city centers like the CHAZ/CHOP zone, the “defund the police extremists,” and the shouts of “No justice no peace” were ignored, despite the obvious sincerity. In fact, Democrats around the country embraced the riots, and Nancy Pelosi openly wondered why more didn’t happen.
The focus here shouldn't be on Leftists.
It should be on the 'reasonable libs' who have abetted and incubated this ideology in the institutions they lead.
For the last decade, the libs have ceded moral authority to deranged and malevolent sociopaths.

Now you have elected officials, academics, and massive groups of students out there chanting their support for Hamas terrorists, and even threatening their fellow Democrats. The extremists have come out to play, and Democrat leaders are caught between a rock and a hard place. They don’t want to embrace the terrorists, but don’t want to denounce a substantial portion of their base.

Even New York Times columnists are starting to notice the antisemitism problem in the progressive movement because it is undeniable. Michelle Goldberg among others has suddenly noticed that the Left kinda hates Jews. John wrote about this the other day.
In Opinion
“The way keyboard radicals have condoned war crimes against Israelis has left many progressive Jews alienated from political communities they thought were their own,” Michelle Goldberg writes. https://t.co/IJjmczwnmu

“The need for a decent Left” is an admission that right now there isn’t one, and Goldberg is right on this. Where IS the decent Left? I can’t find it.
I am harshly critical of Democrats and believe that most of their leadership is corrupt and power-hungry, even more than most politicians throughout most of history. But I sincerely don’t believe that most Democrats are corrupt or evil, and I am certain that the terrorism we saw in Israel shocked the conscience of most Americans regardless of party.
But a substantial fraction of Democrats were not shocked–they viewed Hamas’ rampage of rape and murder were justifiable acts. And this is not an aberration. They see all Westerners as colonizers, White Supremacists, and Nazi-adjacent. This is the core of the DEI ideology, which dominates the ideological Left.

The “Squad” may not represent the most powerful wing of the Democrat Party, but they do represent the most energetic and ideological wing. Do Democrats want to become solely identified with their extremism?
Can they avoid it, when even some progressives are starting to identify the Democrats with the haters? Michelle Goldberg isn’t the only liberal waking up to the extremists in their midst.
We would all be better off if Democrats got off their butts and threw out the Leftist extremists.
Will they clean house? I have my doubts. They need the votes.
