There is nothing more compassionate that calling out the National Guard to ship people, who had been offered sanctuary, to a military base.

That is the line the Leftist New Republic has taken with regard to Martha’s Vineyard response to a mere 50 illegal aliens arriving at the exclusive island enclave.

In a hilariously titled opinion piece, the once-proud magazine tries to sell the narrative that conservatives were owned by the Left and have been driven into a frenzy of anger at being exposed as nasty bullies. Uh huh.

“The Republican Meltdown on Martha’s Vineyard,” the headline blares. Seems accurate to me. Liberals were calm, cool and collected in response to  Governor Ron DeSantis’ freedom flight. They rushed to embrace the 50 “refugees” who landed at their doorstep (before calling out the National Guard to get rid of the icky people). This of course drove you and me to a meltdown, and a humiliated DeSantis is so abashed that he will never repeat such a pathetic stunt.

Uh huh. That happened. Certainly no Leftist compared migrants who crossed the border illegally to trash, and no crazy Leftist would suggest that Ron DeSantis is a Nazi human trafficker. Democrats were totally cool with things and demonstrated their moral superiority to Republicans (who again are “melting down”) because Democrats behaved so well.

Well somebody tell Ron DeSantis that he is having a meltdown. To me he looks like he is pretty happy with the reaction to his policy. He is so happy in fact that more flights are on the way.

Michael Tomasky of The New Republic trots out the Nazi comparison in the very article where he claimed Republicans were having a meltdown:

Stop and think for a minute about what kind of mind it takes to come up with a scheme like this. A few Republican operatives are sitting around fretting that they might lose the midterms. They start tossing out ideas about what they should do. Some policy idea that will solve a problem and help their voters? Be serious; that bird flew two generations ago. Some phony promise to lower gas prices? They’d have no more power to do that unilaterally than Joe Biden does, but at least it has something to do with people’s daily lives.

No, they come up with this. It ticks every key box of modern fascist Republicanism. It’s based on lies (the lies that were told to these migrants); it places trolling the libs above all else; and it’s inhumane to a group of powerless nonwhite people. The neo-Goebbels propaganda trifecta.

I invoke Goebbels because this is the kind of thing he did. He was a master at it—all those “rapes” of German women by Poles along the German-Polish border in August 1939, making it “necessary” for Germany to invade. This is how the reactionary fascist mind works.

People who compare their political opponents to Nazis are clearly on the winning side of an argument, and people who laugh in their face for such absurdities are having a mental meltdown. Only Leftists can spout such idiocy without batting an eye.

This is nothing more than the product of a mental breakdown that ensued after Ron DeSantis’s stunt failed in its mission to break a liberal community and expose some imagined hypocrisy. It ended up revealing two things. First, it showed the world a community that was prepared to demonstrate what true citizenship looks like. More importantly, it exposed just how much the right needs its adherents to believe that the liberals they despise are, deep down, as cruel and as vindictive as they are.

Some will be fooled. But I think most voters, including most swing voters, can see the truth with their own eyes. And if this is the best that the Republicans can do, then I guess we’ll keep seeing this truth reveal itself.

There was something glorious about the liberal meltdown on Twitter the past few days. They sputtered, they trotted out absurdities about DeSantis “kidnapping” and being engaged in “human trafficking,” and they engaged in their typical reductio ad Hitlerum antics.

And most gloriously of all, they now characterize mobilizing the National Guard and declaring a state of emergency over 50 people coming to a supposed sanctuary as a great example of Christian compassion. If the problem being highlighted weren’t so sad it would be funny.

But the truth is that liberals are just angry because they can’t consign illegal border crossers to living under a bridge in El Paso. They are just fine with people crossing the Rio Grande being swept away to drown. And they can only muster the tiniest bit of compassion for people who are roasted alive in the back of semi-trucks. They allow such things, but have to deport 50 migrants from Martha’s Vineyard before they get settled in.

The Left’s moral posturing is disgusting. It is much worse than hypocrisy. It is the essence of cruelty.

It is not Republicans who are using desperate people as political tools, but Democrats who have opened the border and saddled Red states with a problem so huge that it strains their social services. I honestly believe that is the point: destroy Red states.

I hope DeSantis and Governor Abbot of Texas keep the pressure on and redouble their efforts. Until Democrats begin to pay a price for their policies the crisis will continue.
