Rep. Dan Crenshaw voiced some thoughts about a fellow freshman serving in the House Tuesday. He says that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is lying about the treatment of detainees in detention centers along the border. Worse, he says, she is a hypocrite for doing nothing to make the situation better.

Crenshaw says that AOC is only growing bolder in lying about the Border Patrol agents and those working in detention centers.

“It’s sad to see, she’s getting bolder with her lies on this,” he claimed.

“Now she is saying that border patrol agents harassed her and forced migrants to drink out of toilets? This is insanity. This is not true. There is no one else corroborating these kinds of reports.

“Yet, she is using it to try and make her case that we shouldn’t have any enforcement and that we should have open borders. This is really dishonest behavior from a member of Congress and I honestly can’t believe it.”

Rep. Crenshaw is good about explaining how and why legislation is passed in Congress and he set the record straight when additional funding was passed to allocate funding for humanitarian aid at the border. He reminds us that Republicans tried 17 times to bring the supplemental funding bill to the floor in the House. It was only after the Senate came together in a solidly bi-partisan vote for humanitarian funding that the House got on board. The amount of $4.5 billion was approved. The restrictions that Democrats wanted to tack onto the bill were removed.

AOC was one of the Democrats in the House who voted against the supplemental funding for the border crisis. It is a bit rich now that she is touring detention centers and using the tours to produce dramatic reactions on video and social media. She’s a hypocrite. All of the self-promoting Democrats now suddenly concerned about over-populated detention facilities and rapidly dwindling resources are only now even admitting the humanitarian crisis is real. As Crenshaw explained, first the Democrats refused to acknowledge the situation, then they blamed President Trump for the problem, Nancy Pelosi even refused to listen to briefings from the Secretary of Homeland Security. They said it was a manufactured crisis. Only after the headlines became so bad, including a photograph of the bodies of a father and his young daughter on the banks of the Rio Grande River, did Democrats finally get the message.

AOC is a bomb-thrower. She gets attention for extreme comments and I have to imagine at this point, it is frustrating for other Democrats who are not driven by an insatiable need for attention. AOC is only escalating her misguided ideas and opinions and Crenshaw is right to say she is emboldened to do so. She isn’t interested in actually doing anything about the problems on the border – she just wants the sound bites.

As we approach the 4th of July, Crenshaw also weighed in on the New York Times article that bashed America as a not so great country this week. The decorated war veteran berated the author for such a dismal opinion piece. Then he reminded everyone that “misguided” speech is protected, thanks to the sacrifice of others.

AOC is young. She should take a break from hysterical videos and tweets. Exaggerating already bad conditions and spreading false information about those working within the system doesn’t improve the situation. While it is good that Democrats finally have acknowledged that resources are depleting and more additional manpower is needed, lying about Border Patrol agents being Nazis and all the rest of the claims from the freshman congresswoman, including women being made to drink from toilets, only throw fuel on the fire.

People have been dying on the border as they try to illegally enter the U.S. for decades. In the past, it has been mostly the bodies of men and some women being found along the banks of the Rio Grande and on land. Texans like Crenshaw know how long the open borders crowd has ignored the problem. Now that photographs of children are turning up, maybe a more reasonable approach to working with the other side of the aisle will be possible.
