Oh, those crafty mullahs. They thought they were going to pull another slick one on the United States and the world, much as they have been ever since sending the Shah into exile.
I'm sure their little hard hearts went pitter-patter listening to President Trump's interview with Kristen Welker the other day - and you can be assured they were listening - when the subject of Iran came up.
As Ed posted, Trump was sounding tough...until he wasn't. The Iranians, Trump declared, must absolutely disarm...sort of.
Oh, you know it brought cold shivers of delight to those robe and beard-covered chests, hearing the American president leave that sliver of wiggle room.
...Did he make it clear, though? When Welker continued to press, Trump suggested he could be convinced otherwise:
Schmaybe a civilian nuclear program, Trump mused, if they behaved themselves. Didn't tell any tall tales. Followed the rules. Let the world see what's really going on behind the Peacock curtain.
Shoot, they were so close to pulling this off, they could probably taste the turmeric.
Alas.
They got busted like bad dogs this morning. Caught with their robes up, so to speak, and which couldn't happen to a more deserving den of murderous, misogynist maniacs.
A covert group inside the country has provided evidence of something called 'The Rainbow Site.'
🚨 @FoxNews Exclusive revelation of a new nuclear weapons site in Iran
— M. Hanif Jazayeri (@HanifJazayeri) May 8, 2025
The secret site revealed today by the NCRI is code-named the Rainbow Site & produces Tritium — a radioactive isotope used to enhance nuclear weapons, with no peaceful or commercial applications

They've been running this previously unknown tritium extraction facility for over a decade, disguised as a chemical production plant. At least it wasn't a baby milk factory, right?
So all of Obama's pallets of cash deals were even worse performative theater than we thought.

Fox News reveals Iran has been running a secret nuclear site for over a decade, violating the JCPOA from day one. pic.twitter.com/DsAtOilSRs
The administration is determined to keep talks with the Iranians going, which are already in progress.
Fox News has exclusively obtained satellite imagery revealing what an opposition group says is a previously undisclosed Iranian nuclear weapons facility — raising fresh concerns amid ongoing negotiations between Tehran and the Trump administration.
The newly identified site, located in Iran’s Semnan Province, is far from the regime's already-known nuclear facilities. According to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), intelligence gathered from sources inside the country points to a sprawling compound covering nearly 2,500 acres.
Code-named the "Rainbow Site" by Iranian officials, the facility has reportedly been in operation for more than a decade, masked as a chemical production company known as Diba Energy Siba.
..."Without prejudging the negotiation, I will say, so far, so good," Vance told reporters. "We’ve been very happy with how the Iranians have responded to some of the points that we’ve made."
US senators are not as sanguine about the revelation and I wouldn't expect them to be. Tom Cotton and Lindsey Graham both swiftly spoke out about the need for utter and complete Iranian disarmament.
A nuclear Iran is an imminent threat not just to the United States but to the entire world.

A full dismantlement of their nuclear weapons program needs to happen immediately. pic.twitter.com/goCIZKuX1w
He and Graham are also co-sponsoring a Senate Resolution to ban Iran from enriching uranium - talk about performative theater, but at least it sends a message.

It will also be interesting to see which of the senate squishes back them up on it.
There's no question what the Israelis want to do at this stage, hearing the news, and Trump is going to have a helluva time holding Netanyahu back, if that's what he wants to do...in private.
It's going to be hard to judge the call as Trump used very much the same language himself just yesterday.
President Trump publicly promised Iran Wednesday that he would bring the country’s nuclear project to an end — one way or another.
“I would much prefer a strong, verified deal,” the president told syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt about the prospect of a revised nuclear agreement with Tehran.
“Well, we could actually blow ’em up. Blow ’em up, or just de-nuke ’em,” the 78-year-old added, referring to the theocracy’s atomic sites. “But there are only two alternatives, blow ’em up nicely or blow ’em up viciously.”
The Iranians know this is most unfortunate for their stealth campaign and their bargaining position at the talks with Americans. Accordingly, they have started the CYA bluster.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami warns that any attack by the United States or Israel will “open the gates of hell.”

Sliced Salami soon, hopefully.
But the fact of the matter is, Iranian defenses have been methodically winnowed down to near toothlessness.
Khamenei is sweating.

The distance from Israel to Iran is shorter than to Yemen.
And the regime has no air defences.
Tick tock.

Israel has laid their unequivocal marker down, too.
Twice before, the US told Israel not to strike: once when Iraq was developing its nuclear program, and again when Syria was building theirs. Both times, Israel ignored the warnings and took action, wiping out those threats. If Israel sees Iran as a true threat to its survival, it…

...If Israel sees Iran as a true threat to its survival, it won’t wait for permission. It will act.
