President Biden landed in France and almost immediately called a lid for press coverage for the day. It is unclear why he did that.
Biden arrived in France early Wednesday morning time in America. Perhaps he needed a nap.

This isn't just a trip commemorating brave young service members who fought for freedom during WWII. That is all it should be. It is enough. But, no. Joe Biden will turn this trip into a campaign event. He is both desperate and shameless. That is a dangerous combination for a politician clinging to power, hoping to win re-election.
Joe Biden promised to have the most transparent administration ever. That turned out to be a bogus promise. His is a very secretive administration and very unfriendly to the press. We can recognize that Trump was highly critical of the press but he spoke with them daily, if his schedule allowed. He stood and answered questions at every opportunity. That is not how Joe Biden governs in the White House. He avoids the press.
We've seen how Biden is approaching his re-election campaign. He holds very small events in battleground states. The press is kept as far back as possible. He usually does not take questions. Most of his events are held in Pennsylvania because it is near Delaware and an easy trip from Washington, D.C. Biden has to win Pennsylvania in November to win re-election.
Biden frequently talks about former President Trump's trip to France to commemorate D-Day in 2018. He repeats the trope that Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery where hundreds of U.S. Marines who died in the Battle of Belleau Wood during WWI are buried because he thought that the dead were losers.
A story in the Atlantic later said that Trump canceled the visit, not because of rain and traffic congestion as was originally reported, but because he didn't want to get his hair messed up in the weather. There was also an alleged quote from an unnamed senior staffer who quoted Trump as saying, "Why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers." Trump and others have denied that story.
Nonetheless, Biden brings that story up at every opportunity. He likes to sound outraged by Trump's alleged statement because he personalizes the alleged story. Biden's son, Beau, died of brain cancer several years after serving as an officer in the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in Iraq. Biden blames toxins from burn pits in Iraq as a contributing factor in Beau's cancer. Joe Biden often confuses Beau's story. Beau died in a hospital in America, not as he served in Iraq.
It is not clear if Joe Biden re-writes Beau's story because he has dementia and doesn't remember clearly when Beau died, or if it is just standard Biden lying. He is a serial liar and this may be just another whopper.
Biden and his campaign hope to contrast Biden with Trump during this visit. The campaign will show Biden in the best possible light while he is in France. He will go to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery on Sunday. We'll see if he makes remarks during this visit.
There are other events planned, too.
Biden will also take part in the international ceremony marking the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach in Normandy.
Later in the week, he will meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris for a visit featuring a welcome ceremony, military parade and working dinner, followed by a joint press conference.
It will finish with a grand state dinner, with Macron returning the compliment after Biden treated him to the same honor in Washington in December 2022.
The White House said the two leaders would make an announcement on cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, where China is increasingly assertive, as well as on the energy transition and nuclear energy.
The grand finale, though, is a speech scheduled on Friday about "the importance of defending freedom and democracy" at Pointe du Hoc, a promontory that overlooks Omaha Beach, the site taken by U.S. Rangers on D-Day. Biden's intended audience is American voters back home.
Biden will likely note that President Reagan used the same location to declare that democracy was worth dying for "because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man." Reagan blasted the Soviet Union in that speech. Look for Biden to declare his support for Ukraine.
There is no doubt in my mind that Biden will use his speech on Friday to talk about the threat to democracy another term for Trump will present. This is a key Democrat talking point in the election. They have little else to run on so they have to scare voters.
The irony is that Team Biden is doing what they accuse Trump of wanting to do - destroy democracy, aka, America as we know it. Biden has introduced lawfare into the presidential campaign to keep Trump out of the White House. That can never be forgiven. Biden and his fellow travelers are the true threat to our way of life.
