Hakeem Jeffries: Those Republicans who heckled Biden aren't fit to serve in Congress

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries has a short memory. Either that or he is a shameless hypocrite. Yeah, it’s probably the latter. He tweeted out his disapproval of the Republicans who heckled Biden during the State of the Union address Tuesday night.

C’mon, man. Unfit to serve? The responses to that tweet are brutal, by the way. Deservedly so. It takes some oversized cojones to try to shame Republicans for bad behavior after the four years of Donald Trump we all lived through. Democrats set a precedent for unusually bad behavior from members of Congress and that is saying something. When the dazed and confused president pointedly attacked Republicans during his hyper-partisan State of the Union speech on Tuesday night, it should not have been a surprise that Republicans responded right then and there.

Where was the “dignity” from Biden as he lied time and time again about the agenda of Republicans in Congress? He repeated the lie that Republicans want to sunset Social Security and Medicare benefits for senior citizens. The only Republican talking about that is Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) in his plan to oust Mitch McConnell as the leader of Senate Republicans. It was a power play that failed epically with zero Republican senators signing on to his plan. Scott published his plan so Biden thinks he has something to wave around when Republicans deny his claim. Both McConnell and McCarthy have confirmed that neither is willing to consider sunsetting those entitlements. Joe Biden doesn’t care. He wants to keep everyone all riled up in hopes it will help his re-election campaign.

So, now Jeffries is the voice of who should and shouldn’t serve in Congress, eh? In 2018, he was a cheerleader for protests by Democrats during Trump’s State of the Union speech. He didn’t applaud when Trump touted record-low unemployment numbers or other accomplishments his administration achieved. The party in the White House has changed and now he’s wildly enthusiastic about such things.

Remember when all the House Democrat women wore white as a tribute to the suffragettes? They did it for three years during the Trump administration. That stopped when Biden was elected. And, the top Democrat in the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, tore up Trump’s last State of the Union address as she sat behind him. That was cool with Hakeem, though. Nancy had to do what Nancy had to do, you know.

Democrats yelled at Trump in 2020 when he spoke about some wanting to destroy American healthcare. There was not a peep from Jeffries over that. There was no call for civility. Today Jeffries says the Democrats are “just getting started for the people.” That’s what we’re afraid of. He tweeted that in reference to a bogus number that Biden and Democrats use to tout job creation during Biden’s term in office.

“More than 12 million jobs have been created during the first two years of the Biden Presidency. And we’re just getting started for the people,” Jeffries later tweeted.

That’s a lie. Most of those jobs are pre-Covid-19 jobs that employees are returning to. The Department of Labor reports the true number is more like 2.6 million jobs since Biden took office. Wages are still not keeping up with inflation. Many major employers are now laying off thousands of employees. Biden’s America is not nearly as rosy as he declares it to be.

Hakeem Jeffries needs a mirror. His hypocrisy is showing.
