Hunter Biden's lawyers go on the attack, demand investigations

Well, I didn’t see this one coming. I sort of thought Hunter Biden would continue sliding into obscurity as a painter of no renown. But it seems he wants to be in the news again for some reason. Today his attorneys sent a letter to the DOJ looking to make a federal case of what happened to his laptop.

Hunter Biden’s lawyers, in a newly aggressive strategy, sent a series of blistering letters Wednesday to state and federal prosecutors urging criminal investigations into those who accessed and disseminated his personal data — and sent a separate letter threatening Fox News host Tucker Carlson with a defamation lawsuit.

The string of letters, which included criminal referrals and cease-and-desist missives aimed at critics and detractors, marked the start of a new and far more hard-hitting phase for the president’s son just as House Republicans prepare their own investigations into him.

Abbe Lowell, a recently hired lawyer whom Biden enlisted about a month ago, sent lengthy letters to the Justice Department and Delaware’s attorney general requesting investigations into several key players who were involved in disseminating data from a laptop that Biden is said to have dropped off at a repair shop in Wilmington, Del…

“This marks a new approach by Hunter Biden and his team,” said one person familiar with his strategy, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private plans. “He is not going to sit quietly by as questionable characters continue to violate his rights and media organizations peddling in lies try to defame him.”

Eventually we learn that the main target of this demand for instigations is John Paul Mac Isaac, the owner of the Delaware computer repair shop where Hunter brought and then abandoned his laptop. Mac Isaac’s own attorney wasn’t impressed. “After skimming the letters, the only thing I see is a privileged person hiring yet another high-priced attorney to redirect attention away from his own unlawful actions,” he said.

Over at the NY Post, which first broke news from the laptop prior to the 2020 election, they are focusing on the buried lede. Hunter is finally admitting this was his laptop:

First son Hunter Biden’s lawyers admitted late Wednesday that the infamous laptop the now-52-year-old abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop in the throes of his crack cocaine addiction does indeed belong to him.

The revelation came in a petulant letter from Hunter’s lawyers seeking a criminal probe into what they called, attempts to “weaponize” its contents.

In the 14-page letter to Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings, Biden attorney Abbe Lowell claimed that repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac “unlawfully” accessed Hunter’s laptop data and worked with former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to “weaponize” sordid and incriminating contents on it against Joe Biden.

Another person targeted in the letters, Garrett Ziegler, also didn’t think much of the attempt.

“With respect to the letters from the President’s son pleading with his daddy’s agencies to target those who expose his blatant criminality, Kevin Morris did not get a lot of bang for his buck,” Ziegler told The Post, referencing Hunter Biden’s fixer and “sugar brother,” Kevin Morris, who allegedly lent the president’s son $2 million to help pay off his overdue federal taxes and has become the architect of Hunter Biden’s legal and media strategy.

It seems to me this will all come down to whatever laws or policies control abandoned merchandise. John Paul Mac Isaac says he spent months trying to contact Hunter Biden to come and get the laptop. At some point it became abandoned property. Can Biden demonstrate that he ever returned for it prior to it becoming a news story? I don’t know but it seems to me that unless he can prove he did within some reasonable period of time, this wasn’t his property anymore. I guess this will end up in court and we’ll see what a judge has to say about it.
