Darrell Brooks will not testify in his own defense (jury should get the case tomorrow)

We’ll get to the defense resting its case in a minute but first, but in case you missed it last Friday Darrell Brooks had a stare down with Judge Dorow. Here’s a still image.

And this clip shows how it happened. The judge told him to be quiet so she could hear the prosecutor. Brooks banged his fist on the table and then gave her this hard stare. The judge took a break.

Good point here about Brooks’ behavior.

The rest of Friday didn’t go well for Brooks. Here he is questioning one of his own witnesses.

Another Brooks witness testified about how here four children were injured in the parade attack. This is the prosecutor’s cross of that witness.

And during all of this, Brooks continued staring down the prosecutor and the judge and generally being hostile.

He ended the day by yelling at the judge and being kicked out of the courtroom (again).

And that brings us to today. Brooks has called all of his witnesses, so the only question left is whether or not he or his mother will testify. And right off the bat, Brooks is arguing the law with the judge and gets kicked out of the courtroom again.

He then shouted and accused the judge of “lying on the record” from the other courtroom.

Judge Dorow attempted to explain his right to testify but Brooks is acting like a toddler and pretending he can’t hear her.

And this just kept going.

This continued for a while and Judge Dorow eventually decided the defense had rested its case since neither Brooks nor his mother were testifying. She then informed the jury.

After excusing the jury for the rest of the day, Judge Dorow brought in two court employees to testify on the record that Darrell Brooks could in fact hear the trial from the other room even when his mic was muted.

Brooks continued his antics in the other room.

He then put all his boxes in front of the camera. He’s trying to hide for some reason.

But he’s still screaming about something.

Eventually the judge had Brooks’ boxes take away. She tried to ask if he had any requests about the jury instructions and now he’s having a complete meltdown and shouting at the judge.

Judge Dorow, as I’ve noted before, has the patience of a saint. Maybe it’s because she can see the light at the end of this tunnel.

And that brings us to lunch break. Not sure what the plan is for this afternoon but it sounds like the jury won’t be back until tomorrow. If the case goes to the jury tomorrow, I have to assume we get a verdict within a few hours. This is really an open and shut case. Not just the many eyewitnesses but all of the video connecting Brooks to the car. I’ll update this later today if there are any more significant outbursts.
