Here’s something you don’t see everyday. After a rocky start when President Biden made a point of not calling Gov. DeSantis as Hurricane Ian was approaching, things have definitely become more friendly. That started last week when Biden and DeSantis did talk and both seemed to put their political disagreements aside.
Today, President Biden visited the area where Ian made landfall and took a helicopter tour of badly damaged Sanibel island. DeSantis made comments explicitly thanking the FEMA administrator and the Biden administration for their help with the crisis.

By the way, did you notice the seal on the podium set up for the President?

DeSantis then politely handed the floor to Biden who also made some remarks about the work being done. But the big surprise came after Biden finished speaking and started responding to shouted questions from the assembled media. Asked about coordination between state and federal officials, Biden said, “What the governor has done is pretty remarkable, so far.”

You can’t see it from this angle but Biden actually turned to look at DeSantis as he said this. Here’s another angle where you can see DeSantis nodded and smiled in response.
Biden’s people tried to cut off the questions but the media kept shouting. The one that finally got through was, “How has Gov. DeSantis handled this recovery effort?”
“I think he’s done a good job,” Biden replied.

Biden is right about this but it’s going to be a blow to some in the media who have been angling to find some element of failure they can blame on Gov. DeSantis. Beege has more on that coming up shortly. But for now, both Biden and DeSantis are putting aside partisanship for the greater good and a disaster. That seems like the right thing for both of them to do under the circumstances.
Here’s video of the full press conference. As you’ll see, there was a problem with the main camera which required switching to a second camera. But that camera also stuttered and froze at points.
