Tik Tok influencer a person of interest in viral Tesla stunt

It happened early Sunday morning in Los Angeles and already video of the black Tesla Model S flying through the air has been seen millions of times.

This was apparently influenced by a similar stunt back in 2020.

It turns out there’s a bit more to this story. The Tesla seen in the video had been rented for a Tesla meetup organized Saturday night by a popular YouTuber named Alex Choi. Choi released his own video about the meetup including the video of the stunt yesterday (see below). He said the driver had several other people (and a stray cat) in the car during the jump but claimed not to know any of them. The rented Tesla slid into another car and was abandoned at the scene. The driver and other passengers got out and fled the scene which makes this a hit and run.

For the internet, the black Tesla that jumped over the Baxter Street hill over the weekend was a viral moment to behold.

But to musician Jordan Hook, it was just the car that crashed into his Subaru…

“It’s a little beyond inconvenient,” Hook said in front of his disabled Subaru on Monday morning. The tires sat at an unnatural angle and one of them was deflated.

“The car won’t start and the steering column is shot, but I won’t know the full extent of damage until I get someone to look at it,” Hook said. “I can’t drive it. I don’t know how any of this happened. I mean, I do know, but it’s just been so much to take in.”…

“They told me they were going to get the guy. At first, police said they couldn’t do much, but now it’s completely turned around,” Hook said. “I guess that’s thanks to the power of the community talking about all of this.”

The LAPD offered $1,000 reward for information on the identity of the driver. They got a bunch of tips and most of them pointed to a TikTok influencer.

The guy who goes by the name DurteDom on Twitter posted several videos about the crash including one from the scene looking over the wrecked car.

Here’s another clip showing this guy at the wheel of a car eating marijuana gummies, followed by the jump:

And one more where he calls it “my stunt” and mocks the LAPD.

I guess this is considered a win for a Tik Tok influencer. If he was behind the wheel, he’s probably going to have to pay for the wrecked car and for the damage to the car he hit. He may also face charges for the hit and run. Then again, he could be seeking attention. I guess we’ll find out when police have a chat with him. Here’s Alex Choi’s video about what led up to the stunt.

Update: According to this site, misdemeanor hit and run in Los Angeles could result in up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Assuming this Durte Dom guy really was behind the wheel, prosecutors could just play the judge the video above of him laughing about it prior to sentencing. The judge will probably opt for the maximum sentence.
