Just In Time for Midterms, All 45 Senate Dems Vote to Keep Trading Stocks

One of the most popular reforms sought by the public -- a ban on congressional stock trading with all its insider privilege leading to many politicians getting rich in public office just got a vote.

Democrats, who have loudly proclaimed they were all for such a ban, suddenly crapped out. All 45 Democrats in the Senate voted against a measure to ban congressional stock trading.

According to Newsweek:

Every Senate Democrat on Wednesday voted against advancing the Stop Insider Trading Act, which would prohibit members of Congress from purchasing stocks.

The Stop Insider Trading Act, introduced by Nebraska Republican Pete Ricketts, failed to overcome the 60-vote filibuster, as the vote fell along party lines, 53-47.

The bill previously advanced through the House, with some Democrats joining Republicans to pass the bill.

I'd call that a Democrat consensus.

And this was a very watery bill, allowing previous ill-gotten gains from insider trading to be kept by the congressional miscreants.
