Hmmm: 'Serious Safety Concerns.' Obama Calls for AI Regulations

Former President Barack Obama urged U.S. officials to “take the lead” in setting Artificial Intelligence safety standards for the world, calling for government regulation amid "serious safety concerns" that have industry leaders pushing to slow the powerful technology's advancement.

"We need government - and specifically our leaders in Washington - to get proactive in coming up with concrete proposals, laws and regulations that deal with serious safety concerns, anticipate AI's impact on jobs and our kids, and make sure that AI's benefits are widely spread," Obama said in a Sept. 14 social media post.

Obama’s message clashed with President Donald Trumpwho dismissed an effort to establish new AI guardrails.
