Europe Gets Another Chinese SUV Brand

Another brand from China’s Chery, Jetour, will launch in Europe in the third quarter of this year, an executive said at the Shanghai auto show.

Jetour will join the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, which are starting to gain traction in markets including the U.K. Chery vehicles are also sold in some European countries under local brand names and assembly/distribution plans, such as DR in Italy.

Jetour makes plug-in hybrid and nonhybrid combustion-engine models and would not face EU tariffs on Chinese built EVs. It will launch in several countries this year and aims to sell cars across much of Europe by 2027.

Ke Chuandeng, the president of the Jetour brand, said that if successful Jetour cars could be made in Europe. “I don’t think it’s realistic to always import cars from China,” Ke said.

European automotive manufacturing is withering on the vine while Chinese brands first continue dropping new models into the continent and then switch to manufacturing them there to avoid EU protective tariffs.

I would think that would be cause for alarm, but the EU seems to be okay with it.

Wasn't there a song long ago about 'Asleep at the Wheel'? Or was it a group?
