The USS Carney gunned down the KAS-04 drone over the Red Sea while the vessel was positioned near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that separates the sea from the Gulf of Aden, Politico reported, citing a U.S. official.
The U.S. Navy has previously fired on unmanned aircraft launched by the Iran-backed Houthi faction. Last week, the USS Thomas Hudner shot down “multiple one-way attack drones” launched from Houthi territory, United States Central Command confirmed.
The Carney in late October intercepted a string of missiles fired from Yemen.
