Hugh Hewitt: Penultimate question, Mayor. Will you be talking about the Uyghurs in your campaign?
Francis Suarez: The what?
HH: The Uyghurs.
FS: What’s a Uyghur?
HH: Okay, we’ll come back to that. Let me, you won’t be, you’ve got to get smart on that.
FS: Okay.
[Come on, man. If you don’t know what a Uyghur is, you don’t have any business in a presidential campaign. This wasn’t an out-of-the-blue gotcha question either; Hugh asked Suarez about China policy and Antony Blinken’s recent visit, and Suarez gave a lengthy answer to it. This isn’t at all like asking who the president of “Uzbeki-beki-stan” is, as the late Herman Cain derided such Trivial Pursuit questioning. The Uyghur question is at the heart of the US argument on genocide and slave labor in China. — Ed]
