I must admit, I've been so distracted by all the non-stop winning, this story slipped by me. But it's such a deliciously fun piece, I can't let the calendar turn to the dog days of August without bringing it to your attention.
I might have on a few occasions mentioned how in the tank CNN is in the political bias department. What you are about to see and read will remove all doubt, if you still had them. Let's go back a couple weeks, shall we?
In a desperate attempt to 'Joe Biden' Donald Trump, Resistance media began to spin all sorts of conspiratorial narratives that Donald Trump was in failing health. He had bruises on his hands that were being covered up, literally and figuratively, by makeup. His ankles were swollen. From PBS to CNN to the network newscasts, the speculation began to grow that the President might not be in the White House very long, because he was in such poor health.
On July 17th, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the growing rumors, and with transparency that has become a hallmark for this administration, spelled out what was going on with Donald Trump.
So that would normally be that, right? I mean, after all, the President just spent the better part of a week landing the EU deal, and on the side, opened up a new course at his Turnberry resort in Scotland.

No pressure, just the first tee shot ever on your new golf course with the world press watching.

On Air Force One for the trip back to Washington, Trump came back to the press cabin and held a little gaggle, including this bit.

I'm 58. I personally would love to be able to stick a drive like that with a crowd watching after bagging a multi-trillion dollar trade deal. I couldn't imagine being able to do this at 78. Donald Trump seems fine to me, but then again, to be fair, I'm certainly not a doctor. I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Back to CNN, on that same day of Karoline Leavitt's press conference, July 17th, anchors Brianna Keilar and Omar Jiminez spent a segment on the health of the President. This is a television network that boasts as their senior medical correspondent the legendary Sanjay Gupta. Did they go to him for this segment? Nah. They brought in someone else. Meet Dr. Chris Pernell.
Jon Levine at the Free Beacon wrote a wonderful story detailing some of the background history of Dr. Pernell, and it's just glorious.
First, just to put the stats on the board so you can begin to see where CNN wanted to go with this story and why, there are currently, or at least as of May this year, 1,109,460 professionally active doctors. Of that number, there are roughly 488,000 primary care physicians hanging out their shingle in some establishment in the United States. Not that PCP's would be the go-to experts for what specifically is ailing the President, but they're at least the first line of defense before passing it on to a specialist, like someone specializing in geriatric cases. We have about 7,300 of them nationally.
Is Dr. Pernell a geriatric specialist? No. Is she a primary care physician? Of course, not. And is she a practicing doctor at all? Sure doesn't appear to be the case. From Levine's Beacon article.
Though Pernell does have an M.D. from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed a residency with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, her LinkedIn page does not mention having treated patients. After completing her degree at Duke, receiving a Master’s degree in public health from Columbia, and her time with Johns Hopkins, Pernell served as "Chief Strategic Integration and Health Equity Officer" at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. In that role, she drafted the hospital's first "equity and inclusion strategy," hired the hospital's first "director of equity and inclusion," and instituted mandatory implicit bias and structural racism training.
So instead of completing her residency and going into either private practice or within a physician group, hospital or clinic, she is not a treating physician at all, and may have never been. Instead, the good doctor here appears to be a DEI hire specifically to work on DEI hiring policies and procedures.
Dr. Pernell's employment at University Hospital was tragically cut short, as Levin reports.
Pernell said during an October 2022 appearance on the Karen Hunter Show that she faced multiple compliance probes from hospital leadership, stemming in large part from her public criticism of Trump and Republicans. In 2021, for instance,
Pernell had resigned from the hospital a month earlier after an intensive and unsuccessful campaign to become CEO. She claimed during her conversation with Hunter that she had been "forced out," blaming her departure on racism.
So in addition to being a DEI true believer, she's an anti-Trump nut with delusions of grandeur because they didn't make her the boss. But wait, it gets so much better.
Pernell is currently employed by the NAACP. Now you might be scratching your head, unaware that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People had gone into the field of practicing medicine. Fear not. They haven't. Pernell's role? Directing their Center For Health Equity. This is exactly the doctor CNN figured would be the perfect expert to bring to their audience commenting on the vascular health of Donald Trump.
Now Pernell's obvious anti-Trump bias should have been enough to trigger alarm bells at CNN, but Pernell has so much other background from which to offer expert analysis. I sound like a Sham-Wow salesman. There's more!
In addition to her work on equity, Pernell has also pursued an ecclesiastical career as an "apostle" of the Bet Hashem YHWH church movement founded by her brother, Timothy Pernell Jr.So Apostle Doctor Chris Pernell has seen the light, and God has told her, through her brother, that Donald Trump has the three 6's tattooed under that combover somewhere. He's Satan incarnate. No wonder CNN thought she was perfect for this segment.
Timothy Pernell Jr. has described white Evangelical Christians as agents of Satan. "White evangelicals call pedophile Trump, anointed, called, chosen, and appointed by Christ," he wrote last week on Facebook.
"They are SICK !!!!!! Trump is a pedophile and a rapist and an antichrist. White evangelicals have done the work of Satan and attempted to destroyed [sic] America."
Now you might be thinking to yourself, this is awfully harsh on poor Dr. Apostle Chris. After all, she certainly can't be held personally or professionally responsible for her whackadoodle brother, right? She's just part of this church in order to support her family members. She probably doesn't even know what they do there.
Did I forget to mention the whole 'apostle' part?
1.1 million dollars in the United States, doctors that actually have patients they treat, and CNN consciously chose the good Apostle Doc Bernell to bring the good news that Trump is probably much worse off than conventional wisdom would tell you? This is CNN?
I cannot wait for the Stephen Colbert show coming as soon as he can get himself fired from CBS and picked up by CNN as part of their "rebranding" effort. It should do wonders for their ratings, especially if you extrapolate viewership from the protesters that stood outside the Ed Sullivan Theatre trying to save the Late Show.
LOL!!!

Media will begin to climb out of the hole they've dug themselves, but only when they finally make the decision to quit digging.
Chris Pernell as the Trump innards analyst tells me CNN has not chosen that option as of yet.
