Report: Tlaib Employed Hamas Activists, Had 'Extensive Fundraising Ties' to Hamas Supporters

Amazing what one can learn by reading the foreign press, eh?

The independent Canary Mission released a report late yesterday after its investigation into Representative Rashida Tlaib, and it’s a doozy. Canary Mission primarily investigates anti-Semitism on college campuses in the US and North America, and we have linked their reports on two other occasions. No doubt that the last two weeks has them working overtime on their core mission.

However, they did have time to link Tlaib to Hamas activists, fundraising, and indirectly to another terrorist organization to boot:

  • Canary Mission can confirm that Rashida Tlaib has extensive fundraising ties to Hamas supporters. She employed no less than three Hamas-linked activists to fundraise for her 2018 election campaign, one of whom spent 8 months in prison for his alleged connections to Hamas.
  • Tlaib additionally used a pro-terror Facebook page, PAC-USA, to raise funds for her 2018 Congressional campaign. Tlaib gave the founder of PAC-USA the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee for Rashida Tlaib for Congress. He used it to promote 12 fundraisers in 8 states, entirely with her support.
  • In 2015, Tlaib co-founded the Detroit-based, anti-American, anti-Israel and pro-terror hate group, Black4Palestine. A co-founder used the group to conduct activism with members of the Marxist-Leninist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

That seems like quite a story, especially less than three weeks after Hamas murdered dozens of Americans and are currently holding several other Americans hostage. Given Tlaib’s position in US government and her outspoken advocacy against Israel, one would consider this even more noteworthy. And yet the only significant media outlet to report on Canary Mission’s findings is … the Jerusalem Post, where I first came across it while reading about the IDF recon-in-force in Gaza.

The direct links between Tlaib and Hamas activists seem most interesting:

The three fundraisers named were Salah Sarsour, Rafiq Jaber, and Abdelbaset Hamayel.

Sarsour, who was jailed for being connected with Hamas in 1995, co-hosted an event with Tlaib in 2018. The group shared an archived link showing Sarsour’s name appearing on an event flyer. The link can be viewed here.

Jaber has also apparently admitted to helping distribute Hamas’s propaganda in the US. In 2003, he testified that he directed two Hamas front groups to “promote [the Holy Land Foundation] in every way we can” and admitted to distributing pro-martyrdom materials that celebrated the killing of Jews.

The fundraiser is also a co-founder of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Hamayel, the final of the three fundraisers, has worked for multiple Hamas-linked organizations in the United States, all of which are now defunct.

He worked as a representative for the group “KindHearts for Charitable Humanitarian Development,” an organization dissolved in 2011 by the US Department of the Treasury after it was found that they were funneling funds to Hamas.

That just scratches the surface of the Canary Mission report, which has a large number of links back to primary sources. Up to now, Canary Mission has had a good track record of accuracy, and the links in this report seem to stand up to scrutiny. Those links make clear that none of this is secret; it’s just that American media appears to have had no interest in investigating Tlaib’s alleged ties to terrorists up to this point.

Those kinds of ties should be of interest to American voters, especially in Tlaib’s congressional district, no? American media outlets would certainly benefit their readers and viewers by at least offering these links as context to Tlaib’s advocacy against Israel and for “Gazans” while they hold American hostages. And yet, as this post is being written, a Bing news search for Tlaib Canary for stories in the past 24 hours only turns up two articles: the Jerusalem Post report I linked above, and the Cleveland Jewish News, which picked it up yesterday evening.

So where are all of the American news outlets on this story? Perhaps they are working on it now, attempting to confirm Canary Mission’s reporting before repeating the allegations. That might even seem a reasonable step to take, if it weren’t for the fact that American media all chose to regurgitate a Hamas propaganda hoax eight days ago without even waiting for sunrise to check the facts. Now we have a credible report linking a sitting member of Congress to the same terrorist activists, and not a peep from the US media? Hmmmm.

And in fact, Tlaib herself still insists on pushing the al-Ahli lie, which is apparently one reason why Canary Mission decided to offer this report now. It’s that Hamas propaganda lie, and the American media amplification of it, that has stoked an explosion of anti-Semitic rage on American campuses. The media’s reluctance to admit the lie and retract their stories openly and forthrightly contributes to the continuing rage as well.

It’s is long past time for the media to report the truth about Hamas, and about its mouthpiece in Congress, too. As one media outlet in DC loves to posture, democracy dies in darkness. The last time that newspaper even wrote a single word about Tlaib and Hamas? Never. The one WaPo link that comes up in that search comes from the August 2018 coverage of Tlaib’s campaign and makes no mention of Hamas … even while Tlaib apparently employed Hamas activists and fundraisers to win that election. That’s a lot of darkness to penetrate.
