Terror in Jerusalem Brings Out the Worst in Europeans

There was yet another terrorist attack in Jerusalem--this time, a Palestinian opened fire on passengers in a bus, killing at least 6 and injuring more.

The media, of course, have to cover the story, but as usual, the spin is as you would expect:

The New York Times, in its report, emphasizes that this part of Jerusalem was captured during the Six-Day War, stating that it counted as "occupied territory."

A shooting on Monday morning in the northern outskirts of Jerusalem left at least six people dead and several more seriously wounded, according to Israel’s ambulance service and hospital officials.

The police described the shooting as a terrorist attack and said that the perpetrators had been killed at the scene. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The shooting occurred at about 10:15 a.m. when two gunmen opened fire at people waiting at a bus stop at a busy junction, the police said. The police added in a statement that a soldier and several civilians at the bus stop had “engaged the attackers and returned fire,” killing them on the spot.

The junction where the attack took place is in Ramot, a large area that Israel took in the Arab-Israeli war of 1967 and later annexed. The Palestinians and much of the rest of world consider Ramot to be a settlement in occupied territory.

To be clear, that annexation was perfectly legal. Israel was attacked in that war by the combined forces of the Arab world.

As you would expect, the Palestinians are celebrating, and the Palestinian Authority is already setting up the payments from its Martyrs' Fund to support the families of the terrorists. Pravda likes to avoid the dirtier side of the "struggle," but the Palestinian Authority has spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting the families of terrorists who died while committing atrocities against Jews. It is their policy to do so.

What is so dispiriting this morning is that the European leaders, who are rushing headlong into recognizing a Palestinian state, are basically brushing off this attack as if it and others like it aren't the reason why Israel has been forced to fight this war. Keir Starmer is meeting with the Palestinian Authority's leader, Mahmoud Abbas, to discuss recognizing Palestine as a state, and Emmanuel Macron is tut-tutting and "both sides-ing."

The whole "cycle of violence" meme is exhausting.

Notice how Macron says, "East Jerusalem?" He uses that term to emphasize that France does not recognize that Jerusalem is Israeli territory and that it is Israel's capital.

Starmer is meeting with a man who is currently arranging to pay a lifetime pension to the terrorists who committed this act. It is an act of moral cowardice, which by now I think we should have come to expect from the Prime Minister.

A friend of mine often joked that there should be a Neville Chamberlain Award handed out to cowards who believe that appeasing enemies is the solution to all problems. Appeasement, though, is exactly the wrong strategy when dealing with implacable foes. One appeases friends when a conflict arises; one crushes enemies when there is no other choice.

The terrorists are implacable foes, as are their supporters--including the vast majority of Palestinians in the territories. Certainly, that is true of the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The only difference is that the Palestinian Authority pays others to commit the terrorist acts rather than taking direct responsibility for their commission.

The entire Palestinian education system is geared to creating Jihadis. It is their reason for being, and these schools are funded by the United Nations. UNRWA "teachers" participated in the October 7th attacks and have been holding hostages throughout the Gaza conflict.

Neville Chamberlain, at least, believed it when he said that his appeasement would pacify Hitler. Today's European leaders know better. Ultimately, their audience is the millions of Islamists they have invited into their countries, who have designs on taking over Europe. Macron and Starmer know this, so they are tossing Israel to the wolves in the hope that the infant is devoured first.
