FBI: Terror Threat High; Homeland Security: We Have No Idea How Many Terrorists Are in US

It turns out that having an open border may not be great for national security.

Who could have guessed?

Before I get into this post let me say: I hope I NEVER have to say “I told you so” on this issue. We all do. But I fear that Homeland Security may be closing the barn door more than a little late, and be doing too little to increase border security.

The first bit of news is hardly worthy of being called “news.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray has deigned to inform Americans of what we all knew already: the risk of terror attacks is very high right now.

“A whole other level” doesn’t sound very good.

The terror threat against the U.S. reached “a whole other level” after Hamas’ sneak attack on Israel, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray told Congress on Tuesday, saying the big players in terrorism have all renewed calls to attack America and its interests.

He said al Qaeda has issued its most specific call for attacks on the U.S. in years, Islamic State leaders ordered followers to attack Jewish communities and Hezbollah is eyeing U.S. targets in the Middle East. Iran, meanwhile, has pushed proxy attacks on U.S. military basis.

“The reality is that the terrorism threat has been elevated throughout 2023, but the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of attack on Americans to a whole other level,” Mr. Wray said.

With world affairs having taken a major turn for the worse since President Biden was elected, it is hardly shocking that terrorists are looking with longing at American targets and plotting to take out more than a few. The war in Gaza simply steps up an already dire situation to “a whole other level.”

Now add to that little fact the non-news that the American border has been essentially open for 3 years, with 8 million known illegal entries and God knows how many “gotaways.” The number is staggering–around 600,000 this year alone, Mayorkas admits. But since they got away we really can’t say.

Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas was asked about potential terrorists having illegally entered the country through our pourous border, the best he could do was say that they really really cared about the issue and were working to keep America secure.

How comforting.

By now everybody who has a brain knows that Mayorkas is a disgrace, but he keeps exceeding my expectations when it comes to being a tool. When confronted by the fact that he has Hamas sympathizers working for him, all he can do is insult our elected officials for asking about it.

Mayorkas doesn’t even know–or rather, he refuses to say–how many illegals have crossed the border into the United States. He dances around evading very basic questions that directly impact Homeland Security at a time of incredible terror threats, and demonstrates no particular concern about the issue.

Certainly not enough concern to keep Americans informed.

Mayorkas is a disgrace, although he will never be impeached as long as there are enough Democrats in the Senate to protect him on behalf of President Biden.

That they are willing to do so is, in itself, a disgrace.

There is only one way to get this tool out of his corner office, and that requires winning the next presidential election. Let’s make sure we do.
