It’s hard to believe but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has outdone even herself. She proved just how vacuous she can be when she cheered-on a worker walk-out scheduled for Wednesday in Boston by employees of Wayfair. (See our earlier coverage.) Yes, Wayfair, the e-commerce company that sells home goods. She wants Wayfair to end its federal contract to sell beds for children in border detention centers.

AOC actually thinks it is a good idea for employees to bully Wayfair over its contract to sell $200,000 of mattresses and beds to a detention center housing children on the southern border. Over 500 employees signed a petition to demand the company end its contract and they committed to a walk-out Wednesday in solidarity.

The Baptist Children’s Family Services, a non-profit charity group working to furnish the detention center in Carrizo Springs, Texas, contracts with the federal government to manage some of the camps along the border with Mexico. Wayfair workers think the company is enabling illegal alien detentions for profit. This is all about virtue-signaling from the open borders crowd.

“The United States government and its contractors are responsible for the detention and mistreatment of thousands of migrants seeking asylum in our country,” the employees wrote in an undated letter organizers said was signed by 547 employees. “We want to be sure that Wayfair has no part in enabling, supporting, or profiting from this practice.”

They added that the detention of migrants at the southern border isn’t “an ethical business partnership Wayfair should be a part of.”

You can’t make this stuff up. If AOC and her pals are so concerned about the conditions in detention centers and especially the welfare of children caught up in the illegal activities of their parents, why would she deny them a bed in which to sleep? Does she prefer children to sleep on cold concrete floors instead of a bed with a new mattress, just to own the people who support our country’s sovereignty?

AOC considers the real problem here to be that Wayfair is “profiting from concentration camps.” She jumped right in with her support. The employees demand that Wayfair donate their profit from the sale to RAICES. Yes, there’s a tweet for that.

They asked the company to stop. CEO said no.

Employees have asked Wayfair to donate the profits, $86,000, to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, or RAICES, a nonprofit organization that operates in Texas.

The company leadership team responded as you might hope they did. They told the employees that they will sell to “any customer who is acting within the laws of the countries within which we operate.” Good for them. I hope they don’t cave to the Marxist demands of its employees. Private business is to be commended for standing up to those who believe the federal government should provide everything for its residents from cradle to grave. The employees have no right to demand Wayfair donate profits and certainly not to whom donations should be made.

Besides no longer doing business with Baptist Children’s Family Services, there is a second demand. The employees want their “core values” taken into account. From CNN:

More than 500 employees sent a letter Friday to senior management, asking the company to no longer do business with BCFS. They also asked Wayfair to establish a code of ethics that “empowers Wayfair and its employees to act in accordance with our core values.” CNN has seen a copy of the email sent by employees to Wayfair senior management.

Who among us thinks that more than 500 employees are going to agree upon what constitutes the same core values? Does Wayfair only hire the open borders crowd? The company does lean liberal enough to have pulled its advertising dollars from the Laura Ingraham show on Fox when she criticized David Hogg, the gun-grabbing student after the Parkland, Florida mass shooting in the high school. Maybe they will cave to the demands of the mob.

It’s too bad that the Democrats continue to blame President Trump and his administration’s immigration policies for the disasterous conditions at the southern border. Instead of working with the administration and Republicans in Congress to solve the problems, beginning with approving additional funding, they rant on social media. Democrats aren’t really concerned about the conditions in detention centers, they just want a political issue.

Officials called on Congress this week to pass a multi-million dollar funding package to help the relevant agencies provide care to children being held in facilities at the border.

Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner John Sanders urged Congress this week to pass a $4.6 billion emergency funding package which includes nearly $3 billion he says will provide the growing population with adequate care.

AOC and her sister legislators were vocally against additional funding for the border. They went so far as to slam the agents and others working on the border by calling them criminals. This kind of rhetoric is unacceptable yet Speaker Pelosi and other high-ranking Democrats allow it to continue without consequences.

“These radicalized, criminal agencies are destroying families and killing innocent children,” a statement from Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., read. Their accusation appeared to refer to deaths of migrant children while in U.S. custody.

A bill passed Tuesday night in the House after Speaker Pelosi wrangled the far left faction of the Democrats into voting on additional funding for the humanitarian crisis. The funding is for $4.5 billon.

The bill passed along party lines in the Democrat-controlled chamber after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi quelled a mini-revolt by progressives and Hispanic lawmakers who sought significant changes to the legislation.

New provisions added to the bill were more modest than what those lawmakers had sought, but the urgent need for the funding – to prevent the humanitarian emergency on the border from turning into a debacle – appeared to outweigh any lingering concerns.

The 230-195 vote sets up a showdown with the Republican-led Senate, which may try instead to force Democrats to send Trump a different, and broadly bipartisan, companion measure in coming days as the chambers race to wrap up the must-do legislation by the end of the week.

Wayfair was down 5% on the New York Stock Exchange at the end of business Tuesday.
