Is it really so surprising that Obama’s supporters would do something like this? Let’s consider ourselves lucky they didn’t try to give themselves a negroplasty.
Hussein must be thrilled. Soon they’ll be selling roses are redlights.

I was disappointed to read that one of the blind followers mentioned lives in Oklahoma. But given that she’s in Norman, and is therefore probably an OU student, her stupidity is somewhat excusable – sort of like the half-wit who drools while sitting at the dinner table: she can’t really help it.
Go Cowboys!
James OK on June 28, 2008 at 8:05 PM
I bet they feel so empowered when they call him Hussein. What starts out an insult by people who are against him … is later embraced and used by his followers now, but only when it’s ‘one of them’ saying the word, then it’s okay. What’s next, calling him the N word?

Especially if Obama is elected like they want. They should put that on their IDs. Something to show the Iranians when they storm our houses after the blasts. Maybe they’ll let them join the local Basij. I, personally, will be launching an revolution from the woods with Patrick Swazye. We’ll call ourselves THE WOLVERINES!

Karl Rove said it would backfire. I said it would backfire. Everyone with half a brain said it would backfire. And now, to all you morons who kept emphasizing his middle name in some sort of half assed attempt to make him look like a “secret Muslim” or something…watch it backfire. Every time somebody does one of those “B. Hussein Obama” (and I’ve seen worse from some HA commenters) things he gets a sympathy vote. This guy SUCKS on issues. He’s the most liberal legislator in BOTH houses of Congress. He has ZERO experience. Why do we have to make crap up to beat him?

Malan, I’ll be more than happy to just call him Barry, as soon as he publicly denounces the Nation of Islam and renounces any involvent with that hate-filled, seditious organization and its vile leader. Until then, it’s fair game. Yes, it will back-fire…on him.
So like the residents of Billings, Mont., who reacted to a series of anti-Semitic incidents in 1993 with a townwide display of menorahs in their front windows, these supporters are brandishing the name themselves.
See! The New York Times is capable of doing in-depth research on any individual.
The only incentive is their desire to protect any politician with a “D” in front of their name.
Given enough time they will always find the supposed moral Equivalent.
HA! HA!

Ok, at first this obsession with Obama was stupid, but almost endearing in it’s immaturity .
Now it’s starting to get seriously creepy.

These are the same people who will force you to hang his portrait in your house like Mao and Kim. If you don’t… you’re a racist! Oh, and you have to change your middle name to Hussein too, you know, so were all the same and stuff. This is getting scary…

Heh. Not quite, but thanks. This aversion to using the guy’s middle name is as irrational as refusing to acknowledge his Muslim background. Dear God people, this man is seeking to lead the most powerful nation on the face of the earth. His status, within Islam, is of great concern to me. It is up to him to clarify this aspect of his life by dis-avowing connections with these radical groups and individuals.
When he loses, will they all commit mass suicide, ala Jonestown? What a bunch of losers.

From the article:
““My name is such a vanilla, white-girl American name,” said Ashley Holmes of Indianapolis, who changed her name online “to show how little meaning ‘Hussein’ really has.”
She is obviously brimming with appreciation of her skin color and nation.
/sigh

Leave it to the NYT to make this bit of adolescence a headline story.
Ann Althouse apprently noticed the same thing I did. From her blog.
I assume they see themselves as good-hearted and idealistic, but:
1. How did you become estranged from your own name, to regard it — as opposed to yourself — as vanilla, white, female, and American, and to think of that combination in a negative way?
2. Why do you think the name “Hussein” has little meaning and that people who have that name appreciate your demonstration that is has little meaning? You’re propagating the idea that “Hussein” is a dirty word — associated only with Saddam Hussein — that ought to be deactivated by repetition, as opposed to an honorable name within a respected tradition.

The cultural self-estrangement, self-loathing undermines destroys credibility, when the enemy of their enemy becomes their friend.
