Don't expect Biden to drop by East Palestine

Why can’t this administration do anything right other than send military aid packages to Ukraine? And even then, that foreign policy adventure is losing support among the public. Since the fall of Kabul, the ethos of the Biden White House and its officials is to only go through the motions, do a minimal amount of work, and exhibit the same amount of effort in those tasks.

And what does Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg do all day? Because we’ve had multiple near-collisions at airports across the country. Airports in Austin, Boston, and New York City almost had disasters, we have a supply chain crisis, and this bungled moment in crisis management stemming from this train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. It also took him nearly three weeks to arrive, but Joe Biden has yet to come. The big guy has been asked repeatedly, but his schedule is too full to stop by a town that could be the epicenter of an environmental fiasco that could impact the area for years.

These people have nowhere else to go. They’re scared to drink the water, their soil could be contaminated, and the absence of wildlife isn’t drumming up confidence about the area’s safety. To complicate matters, workers at the crash site, whose chemical spill has led to the deaths of thousands of fish and livestock, are getting sick, stricken with bouts of nausea and migraines. Furthermore, there wasn’t enough protective gear for the crews.

This development comes on the heels that it took nearly three weeks for Pete to show up, let alone acknowledge that East Palestine was a crisis zone. It took two weeks for Biden to release federal resources. It’s either incompetence or vindictiveness, maybe both. We’ve discussed how relief aid would have been deployed post haste if this had been in deep blue Delaware or California. But because it’s a rural, white, and Republican-heavy town, Biden and his ilk couldn’t care less: these people got what they deserved, is the White House’s mantra.

I don’t think Biden will travel to East Palestine, with CNN reporting that the folks here also couldn’t care less about a presidential visit since it’s MAGA country. That’s not the point. Biden is the president of the United States, and you go to these disaster areas, even if the people hate you. It’s your job, and if he can’t manage that, he was never qualified for the position to start, something we’ve known for months. At least act engaged and not just sit in the Oval Office, looking at the ceiling.

If anything, you’d think Pete would be the most eager to get on the ground, as his handling of this crisis could be threaded into his potential run for president later. If you can’t get a train crash under control, then what are you even doing in public life? Not only that, but I also almost forgot how he did next to nothing when people warned him of a software glitch that could impact air travel if not addressed. Pete did nothing, which came to a head during the holiday season. Is there anyone qualified in the Biden administration?
