MSNBC is gonna MSNBC. One of the cable network’s hosts, Joy Reid, is known for provocative statements and a tendency to cry racism in any conversation.
Remaining true to form, during a panel discussion Monday night as the Iowa caucuses were happening, Reid brazenly blamed Nikki Haley’s third place showing on racism. Joy Reid’s hot take on Iowa is that the state is overrepresented by white Christians. You can’t make this stuff up. Does she think all of America looks like NYC or even Houston, Texas? Maybe she should get out more.
It’s the elephant in the room, you know. Nikki Haley is “a brown lady” and Republicans don’t want immigration. And the only argument she sees for DeSantis to remain in the race is because he’s a white guy.

She got in several tropes in that bit. Most Republicans support legal immigration. Republicans support law and order so when millions of people essentially break into the United States, Republicans will have something to say about that. No one gets to pick and choose which laws are enforced, even though that is what the current president is doing. We are getting the usual trope that Trump is a racist. Want to see a racist? Look no further than the president’s residence at the White House. He and Jill have uttered racist statements yet the media gives them a pass because they are all own the same side. DeSantis is still in the race because he worked the hardest in Iowa.
Nikki Haley fired back on Tuesday morning. She said that Reid lives in a different America.
Haley was asked about Reid’s comments during “Fox & Friends” and said she remains confident she can prevail despite losing the Iowa caucuses and coming in third place behind both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis.
“Joy Reid lives in a different America than I do,” Haley told Brian Kilmeade Tuesday. “I mean, yes, I’m a brown girl that grew up in a small rural town in South Carolina who became the first female minority governor in history, who became a U.N. ambassador and who is now running for president. If that’s not the American dream, I don’t know what is.”
“You can sit there and give me all the reasons why you think I can’t do this. I will continue to defy everybody on why we can do this, and we will get it done,” she continued.
Brian Kilmeade asked if the Republican Party is racist.
“No we’re not,” Haley shot back. “We’re not a racist country. We’ve never been a racist country. Our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday. Are we perfect? No, but our goal is to always make sure we try and be more perfect every day that we can.”
“I know I faced racism when I was growing up, but I can tell you today is a lot better than it was then. Our goal is to lift up everybody, not go and divide people on race or gender or party or anything else. We’ve had enough of that in America. That’s why I’m so passionate about doing this. I don’t want my kids growing up where they’re sitting there thinking that they’re disadvantaged because of a color or gender. I want them to know that if they work hard, they can do and be anything they want to be in America.”
Republicans don’t use skin color as an excuse. If Nikki wins over enough GOP primary voters, she will win. The truth is that it is the Republican Party that has offered the most diverse slate of presidential candidates in 2023, as it did in 2015. If diversity is a priority, there is no longer a need to go to the Democrats. The Party of Lincoln can hold it’s own in elections.
Joy Reid gets away with her nonsense and is allowed to pretend she is capable of political analysis because MSNBC doesn’t care. They hire for diversity, not merit.
