It’s been a long and exhausting week. Our close ally, Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East is now at war with Hamas in Palestine. The ground war is on the brink of beginning. Hamas must be destroyed.
This is a crucial moment of moral clarity. For too long, Hamas was tolerated without serious repercussions when it conducted terrorist attacks. Hamas never suffered real consequences in the past for nefarious activities. Now they must be wiped-out. There is no turning away from those who behead babies, murder young children sleeping in their beds, rape and abduct women, and kill or drag the elderly out of their homes.
Fox News is reporting that IDF troops have crossed into Gaza and begun their raids on border areas.
It is crucial that America’s support of Israel be voiced loudly and firmly. There can be no light between Israel and the United States. So, it is good news that a bipartisan group of senators is going to make a trip to Israel to deliver a message of support.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a person I very rarely have anything nice to say about, is leading the group. Schumer has been traveling a lot lately. He cut short a trip to Asia to return home when Hamas began its war with Israel. As I write this Friday morning, the list of senators that will make the trip with Schumer has not been released.
Schumer is the top person in the Senate and he is Jewish. It makes sense that he is organizing the trip. They will travel to Israel this weekend.
The spokesperson said the trip is meant to “show the United States’ unwavering support for Israel,” noting that Schumer is “the highest ranking Jewish elected official in the United States history.”
Schumer will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister and opposition leader Benny Gantz and President Isaac Herzog, the spokesperson said.
The lawmakers and the Israeli leaders will “discuss what resources the United States can provide to support Israel on all fronts.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin have both visited Israel this week.
The Senate is scheduled to return to Washington on Tuesday. They will debate how much money and equipment to send to Israel. There is talk of combining an aid package with money for Ukraine’s war against Putin’s invasion.
Senator Joni Ernst and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks led a bipartisan, bicameral Congressional delegation tour of Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan. They met with leaders and Israeli families. Ernst returned Wednesday from Israel after meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) has made trips to Israel and evacuated dozens of stranded Americans this week. He said he is doing the work that Joe Biden is not doing.
Governor Ron DeSantis is sending chartered planes to bring home Floridians.
A bipartisan group of House lawmakers led a vigil at the Capitol last night to mourn the more than 1,000 killed in the attacks.
All of this is refreshing news after seeing reports all week of hideous rallies in support of Hamas. It’s unacceptable and evil must not be allowed to further flourish.
