Update (Ed), 5/20/23: The claim at the basis of this post appears to be a hoax. Jazz Shaw wrote a follow-up covering the exposure of the hoax and why it took place.

I ponder what Jill Biden must think about homeless veterans getting kicked out of hotel rooms in New York State so that illegal aliens can have their rooms. There are only so many rooms available, right? What does the first lady think about those who broke our laws and entered our country illegally being given priority over those who served the United States in the military? I ask this question because she has not publicly spoken about it since the New York Post published the story.

Jill Biden keeps telling us that hers is a military family. She pats herself on the back for allegedly working with military families. She brings along a cameraman to document when she visits a military community and meets with the children of military members. She very much wants this narrative to be one that is a part of her legacy as first lady. That’s fine. Military families deserve support. Theirs is not an easy lifestyle. However, I’m curious as to why Jill isn’t speaking up and trying to help protect homeless veterans when they lose the housing they have been able to secure.

Many of these veterans are reported to be from the Vietnam War era. Some served in Afghanistan. I will say that my husband is a Vietnam war veteran and he has been appalled to see this story unfold. The Veterans Administration hasn’t always covered itself in glory in how it handles those veterans who need help with housing, especially older veterans. It is a black mark on our country’s history when we don’t take care of those who served.

The New York Post reported that almost two dozen homeless veterans were told to leave upstate New York hotels to make room for the illegal aliens that NYC Mayor Adams is bussing out of his city. Sharon Toney-Finch is the CEO of the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation, an organization she created to raise awareness of premature births, as well as help homeless and low-income military veterans. “Our veterans have been placed in another hotel due to what’s going on with the immigrants.’’

Toney-Finch said 15 of the veterans got the heave-ho from the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh about 60 miles north of New York City in Orange County — a new epicenter of Big Apple’s migrant crisis since Mayor Eric Adams began bussing Gotham’s overflow there against local officials’ wishes.

The other five displaced veterans were split between two other local facilities — the Super 8 and Hampton Inn & Suites in Middletown, Toney-Finch said.

The Middletown hotels are not believed to have migrants yet but were reportedly on the city’s shortlist to take some.

She said the hotels didn’t explicitly say the vets had to move because of the migrants but that it was clear to her that was the case, given the timing.

In Joe Biden’s America, illegal aliens get preference for what little housing is available for the homeless over American service veterans. This is unacceptable.

The veterans had been in the hotels for about two weeks. Now Toney-Finch says her organization has to start from scratch to win the trust of veterans in need.

“We are trying to regain their trust,” said Sharon Toney-Finch, CEO of the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation and herself a disabled veteran. “They are very upset because of how they have been replaced and we are, too.”

Leaders in the veteran community were quick to denounce the evictions of the former soldiers, many of them struggling with PTSD.

“These veterans served their country, taking an oath to put themselves in harm’s way if need be,” said David R. Riley Sr., American Legion Department of New York commander. “They deserve better. We owe them. Our country, our state, our citizens owe them.”

What say you, First Lady Jill Biden? She launched Joining Forces, a nationwide initiative that calls on all Americans to rally around service members, veterans, and their families, with then-First Lady Michelle Obama in 2011. “Joining Forces works hand in hand with the public and private sector to ensure that service members, veterans, and their families have the tools they need to succeed throughout their lives.” Having a roof over one’s head is certainly a necessity to succeed in living life to its fullest potential.

Jill Biden’s top aide, Rory Brosius, who is leading the initiative is stepping down later this month. She will be replaced by Sheila Casey, the wife of former Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey and the former chairwoman of Blue Star Families. Surely the wife of the former Army chief of staff doesn’t agree with such shabby treatment of homeless veterans. Or, maybe she does. The Biden administration often finds itself at odds with mainstream America.

This is a shameful situation. It is solely the fault of Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas, along with Mayor Adams. Mayor Adams wanted to run a sanctuary city until he had to do just that. Then it was too much to ask. Funny how that happens. It was all fun and games until the red states along the border decided to act to relieve overcrowding.

Where’s Jill Biden? Any time something controversial happened in the previous administration, we were told that the first lady was complicit. What changed? Never mind. That’s a rhetorical question.
