Justice Amy Coney Barrett spoke at the Federalist Society’s 40th-anniversary gala Thursday evening in Washington, DC. She received a standing ovation and applause at the speaking event. Justice Samuel Alito received an extra standing ovation. Both justices have certainly earned acknowledgment for their dedicated work to honor the Constitution.

“It’s really nice to have a lot of noise made not by protesters outside my house,” she said as roughly 2,000 attendees at the Thursday evening gala event at Union Station in Washington, D.C., welcomed her to the stage.

The mom of seven children faces nightly protests outside her home, as do other conservative justices, for the Supreme Court’s decision on Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health. It’s against federal law to protest outside a judge’s home, yet the Democrats who run the communities in which conservative justices live do not stop the protests. It isn’t only stressful on the families of the justices, it’s disruptive to the whole neighborhood. Imagine living right next door to the Barrett home.

Personal safety is always top of mind, as White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says, and they probably are always looking over their shoulders. Abortion extremists protest outside the justices’ homes knowing there will be no consequences. Law and order doesn’t mean much in Biden’s America. Ever since a draft version of the Supreme Court opinion on Dobbs was leaked, the author of the opinion, Justice Alito, has felt the wrath of pro-abortion women and men. Security became such a big concern during the time right after the leak that he and his family were moved to an undisclosed location.

And we can’t forget that Justice Kavanaugh was the target of an assassination plot. That deranged man was also hoping to shoot two other justices.

Demonstrations continue. One think tank has asked why DOJ isn’t shutting down the protests in front of private home, but has not been successful in getting answers.

The demonstrations have largely gone unchecked by law enforcement. In October, the Justice Department was sued by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that claimed the DOJ failed to comply with FOIA requests for documentation explaining why the department failed to enforce a federal law that protects Supreme Court justices from certain demonstrations at their private residences.

The group’s lawsuit against the Justice Department said its request for records from various offices, including the Office of the Attorney General, Office of Legal Counsel, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service, were all denied.

In June Congress passed legislation approving more security for Supreme Court justices. Protection was expanded to the families of the justices, too.

Republican Senators Mike Lee, of Utah, and Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, were also in the audience. Thursday’s gala during the Federalist Society’s Annual Lawyer’s Convention was attended by about 2,000 guests.

Amy Coney Barrett and Samuel Alito deserve all the standing ovations for taking part in moving the issue of abortion back to the states and out of federal control.
